Our first story takes place at the very beginning, the year it all took off...
CHAPTERS 1-12: ÉMILIE + SARA, COTTON CANDY COFFEE
College drop-out and hardworking waitress at the coffee nook, Sara 'Cookie' Cook thinks this is where her life plateaus. That is until the owner of the new bakery across the street, the sweet Émilie Doux, takes an interest in her that may be bordering on romantic. Is Sara the protagonist of her own 2000's romcom or were her parents and ex-boyfriend Joel right and she's too simple for something like love?
"Her hands are marshmallow soft, her pale skin like the smooth cream on top of a well-timed hot chocolate. When she looks at Émilie, her blue eyes like the sea from holidays past, she remembers why she was here in the first place. 'You forgot to pick up your cinnamon latte with rainbow sprinkles!' She mutters, her sepia skin holding hardly any of her embarrassment. But she knows that Émilie sees her. Émilie always sees her."
