3rd POV

Road, day.

The three of them were now on the run in the middle of the highway.

Tom: All right, pal. You need to start talking right now! Who are you? WHAT are you?

Dawn: Dad... he's a hedgehog.

Sonic/Dawn: I feel like that's obvious.

Sonic and Dawn stare at each other in shock and start laughing.

Dawn: Oh my god, that was so cool!

Sonic: I know right? It's like we could practically read each other's minds.

Tom then clears his throat.

Dawn: Sorry.

Sonic: Yeah sorry. Anyway, I am in big trouble!

Tom: Oh, you're in big trouble? You're not the one who punched some government weirdo back there!

Dawn: Dude was cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

Sonic: You think you have problems? I lost my rings! And my necklace!

Tom: Rings; what are you talking about?

Dawn: Yeah and what's this necklace?

Sonic: Okay...rings are how all advanced cultures travel between worlds-

Dawn: "Mumbling to herself" Clearly we aren't advanced if we don't have that.

Sonic: -And now mine are on top of a pointy building I've only ever seen on your skintight t-shirt!

Tom seems offended by how he described it

Dawn: So, it's on top of the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco.

Sonic: Yeah! And my necklace is something, someone very important gave to me. So, I'd like you to take me to San Francisco so I can get back my rings and my necklace and use them to go to the Mushroom Planet!

Tom: "He sounds like he's done" ...Mushroom Planet.

Sonic: Yes!

Tom: Right...

After a while, he pulls over and opens the passenger door for a confused Sonic while Dawn looks at Tom in shock.

Tom: Okay pal, out you go.

Sonic: I'm sorry, what?

Dawn: Dad!

Tom: Look, this is the worst possible time for me to get myself into trouble, okay!? You asked me to save your life, I saved your life. Now please, go-...find your rings and your mushroom land. "Sonic watches dejectedly" Hopefully I'm gonna wake up in a hospital bed and the doctor's gonna tell me that my colonoscopy was a big success, okay? So, goodbye.

Dawn snickers slightly at Tom's words

Sonic: "While sadly stepping out of the truck" Okay...goodbye.

Sonic stays standing there

Tom: Goodbye. ..why aren't you leaving?

Sonic: I don't know where San Francisco is.

Tom: It's west.

Sonic: West?

Tom: Straight shot, can't miss it.

Sonic: Fine. That's cool. "sarcastically" I'm totally cool saying goodbye now.

Sonic speeds off in the direction Tom gave him, the latter chuckling at how easy that was.

Tom: That was weird.

Dawn: It was a walking talking blue hedgehog... what's weird about it?

Tom just looks at Dawn for a moment before sighing when he notices her leg moving up and down rapidly as if she was anxious.

Tom: You ok?

Dawn: Yeah, I'm fine.

Dawn's POV

Why do I feel like I shouldn't leave him? I barely know him and vice versa. I just can't have him out there alone.

Dawn: My goodness, I just feel like I shouldn't leave him.

I start to unbuckle my seatbelt

Tom: Dawn! What are-

but then he comes back to the truck (which startles Dad), now soaking wet and covered in seaweed, along with a fish on his head. It takes so much in me to not burst out laughing.

Dawn: "In between giggles" What happened to you?

Unknown: So, as I...crashed into the cold, dark water of the Pacific...I realized a few things. A, I have no idea where I'm going. B, Salt water stings. C, I shouldn't even be on this planet right now, but. I. am! Why?! Because you SHOT me.

Tom: I know.

Unknown: YOU SHOT ME!

Tom: All right, I heard you the first time; you don't have to...pile it on to your...grief.

Dawn: I mean, I think it's fair.

Dad stares at me in slight shock

Unknown: "extends his thumb" I'm wet... "extends his index finger"... I'm cold... "opens his arms" ...there's a FISH ON MY HEAD... and CLEARLY, I'm not going to be able to do this on my own!

the fish falls off his head shortly after making me snicker.

Tom: "He sighs" All right, get in the truck!

Unknown: Really!? "he shakes the water off of himself, puffing up his fur" You're gonna help me?!

Tom: I guess it is a little bit my fault that all this is happening to you.

Unknown: No, not a little bit; entirely; it is ENTIRELY your fault!

Tom: Okay, it's entirely my fault; are you coming?

Unknown: Yes.

He then shakes himself off again, this time with his fur going back to normal. He climbs back into the truck onto my lap and closes the door.

Unknown: Road trip; WHOOP WHOOP!

Tom: "sigh" What am I doing...?

Dawn: Helping.
