Azriel
She's late. We were supposed to have left for Hewn City an hour ago, and even though I know is selfish, I don't want her to show up. I don't want Verena anywhere near that asshole Rein. He doesn't deserve to even lay his eyes on her and if he does, I'll make sure to carve them out.
"No no no, Mor, I said no." Verena's voice snaps me out of my raging thoughts as she rushes in with Mor hot on her heels with some kind of jewelry on her hand, trying and failing to put it on Verena, who looks ready to strangle her.
"I already let you choose my outfit, my hair, and my makeup. That's the extend of where this goes. If I do too much, he won't bother to look my way." She stresses.
With my arms crossed over my chest, I look her over with an amused smile. She's wearing a black cape that covers all of her, not letting me see the outfit Mor made her wear. But her black-purpleish hair flows flawlessly down her back in glossy waves. It makes me want to run my hands through it.
Just the sight of her makes my shadows restless. She affects them as much as she affects me. I can't sleep without dreaming of her. I can't elaborate a single thought that doesn't involve her. It's maddening. But if getting a single glance of her is the price for going insane, I would gladly pay it.
Mor throws up her hands, "Fine. Don't wear them." Sighs dramatically, "You're so stubborn, Vera. And Rein will not just look at you, he will willingly give up all his secrets." He won't have eyes to do that.
Verena rolls her eyes and finally turns to lay them on me. Once again, I'm struck by her beauty. By her.
Every time I see her something flips inside me. Something makes me want to be near her. Yearn to hear her light, warm voice, her laugh. I fear I have handed her the power to either destroy me or restore my hollow heart without her having to ask.
"So, are we ready to go?" She asks me and I almost say no. I don't want her anywhere near Hewn City, not just because of the horrible people who inhabit it, but because I don't want her to sell herself to please our Court. Despite what Rhys says, I would had had Rein talking in a matter of minutes.
At that same moment Rhys, Cass, and Amren walk in, no doubt to wish us farewell.
Amren still looks at Verena with distrustful eyes, but Verena has either gotten used to it or she doesn't care. Still, I don't like it.
Rhys stops in front of Verena and I can't help but notice the subtle similarities they share. Their face shape, some of the expressions they make without noticing. It's a weird concept to think about.
