With the approaching fall comes the esteemed Quidditch World Cup, the event that the Weasley family and their friends in particular have been looking forward to. The twins and Y/n watch Molly write out a letter to the Dursleys, that horrid family of Harry's that he has to live with. She's pretty sure the old woman would take Harry in if she could, no questions asked (and with disregard to any financial situations).
The girl smiles as she thinks about how much earlier in the summer, Hedwig had arrived with a letter from Potter: a plea for help because apparently, Dudley was now 'the size of a small killer whale' and Petunia was putting the whole family on the diet provided by his school. Only fair, right? In response, Mrs. Weasley had sent the family bird tumbling to Privet Drive with a package stuffed full with fruitcake and meat pies, a feat after which the poor Errol needed five days to recover.
Y/n laughs quietly as she watches Molly cover almost the entire envelope with stamps, leaving only a small rectangle to squeeze in the address. She knows she should probably tell her that she only needs one or two, but it's so very funny and so ridiculous and so, so very her to do such a thing, and the teen decides she loves her all the more for it.
"What's so funny?" The twins ask, but she only waves them away.
"You wouldn't get it," is all she says. She ignores their presses for an explanation, instead going back to watching Molly finish her writing.
All throughout the summer, and especially after seeing her broom feat on her birthday, the twins have been educating Y/n on all things Quidditch in preparation for the World Cup. They walk her through every single page of The Official Guide to the Quidditch World Cup, and Quidditch Through the Ages, explaining every rule, restriction and event with great excitement. It's the most reading she's ever seen them do willingly, and by the end of it all her head is spinning with information.
"Started in 1473, so they say, but that was only the European teams for the next century. So some people date its inception from the seventeenth century, which was when everybody started competing."
She watches with half-lidded eyes as Fred closes the book and sets it aside, stretching out his muscles and looking over at her.
"In the very first Cup, it was Flanders and Transylvania. They broke pretty much every fowl known to man."
"All seven hundred," Fred pipes in. "And more that they had to come up with."
"Changing the Chaser into a polecat, attempted decapitation with a broadsword, the like. A hundred vampire bats underneath a cloak. All fun and games."
Rubbing her eyes, Y/n looks at the clock to see that it's half past seven and she can smell the delicious dinner being cooked up by Molly downstairs, even on the top floor. They're currently residing on the comfy mattresses in the attic, the twins' current sleeping quarters. Bill and Charlie, the oldest Weasley sons, have arrived to travel to the stadium with them and are sleeping in Fred and George's room. Hermione is set to arrive the next day, to sleep in the room with Ginny and Y/n, and Arthur is making arrangements to temporarily connect the Dursleys' fireplace to the Floo Network so that they can pick up Harry from his house a couple of days later. Until then, they've got packing lists to put together, assuring the boys' mother that they won't leave anything behind and that all is accounted for by at least a day before they leave for the Portkey that is to take them to the set location of the event.
