I didn't understand the comparison Irbis had made. Comparing me to Drake was like comparing a house cat to a lion, sure they're both cats, but that tabby just ain't big enough to choke down that lion.
"What are you talking about?" I asked her. I said it like, 'wow, I didn't know you were that crazy.'
Luna stood up, the Alpha female of the Wolves, she was tall and strong, I felt like cowering, but I didn't, because for some reason I also felt like setting her on fire. " We are talking about a revolution!" She yelled, unnecessarily. "We are talking about having something Drake doesn't, something potentially-" She looked me up and down as she said it, "more powerful than him, and if not at least something to give him a scare!"
A power play? They wanted to take the Changeling Government from Drake? With me to back them up? ME?! "Are you kidding?!" I stumbled back, trying to put distance between myself and her yellow eyes. "I can't even control it properly, besides no one will actually believe it!"
"Wrong," Said Jax, getting up from his seat. " Since you died this morning Drake's bounty for you has more than doubled."
"So?"
"So it looks like someone believes it. Don't forget his Bloodhounds saw it all. And his Alpha Wolf, Dev."
I winced, I had forgotten, but still... "That doesn't mean I could go up against Drake, I can't challenge that. And what if I did win? I'm suppose to step aside and give it up to Irbis?" Everyone was silent at that. Of course I was supposed to give it up. Everything and anything for Irbis. "That's not important right now," Jax said, "What's important is you can shake him, it's obvious if he wants you captured more than the rest of us."
"Not more than all of us," I said eyeing Irbis.
"No, Nix, you don't understand. Your bounty is even more than Irbis's."
I blanched a little. And thought about going NA-NA-NA to Irbis, and then I thought about running out of the room. I felt the pressure of everyone's eyes on me. "Phoenix," Irbis said, stepping forward and taking my hand, I let he, I was to shocked to pull away. "We know you aren't ready, maybe you won't ever be. But it would be nice to see the people have someone to look up to, and to not have to hide anymore. I'm hoping you will do this, but it's a big sacrifice. A lot of training, a lot of fighting, a war, potentially. But you know that Drake is destroying the humans and the scientists we need to find a cure. He knows if there was a cure, he would lose his throne. We need to bring him down, for humanity, for us, for New York, and maybe even the world." She looked me deep in my eyes and I didn't look away. "Even if you just scare him, it might be enough. But if you are going to do this I need you all in, no backing out, it's a fight to the death, maybe your very last death. Think about it. Let me know in three days time." She dismissed me by dropping my hand and turning her back to me. I tried to say something, but nothing came to mind so I met everyone's eyes, blue gold, white, green, all different colors and shades, all with the same look of hope. I felt a hand on my shoulder and Jax was steering me out of the room and down the hall. When we reached to stairs he stopped and turned me to face him, I didn't like him touching me, but I dealt with it.
"Nix," He said, softly. "I know you are young," I laughed, Jax was only two years older than me. He silenced me with a look and continued. "I think you can do this, I've been watching you for awhile-" I quirked an eyebrow. "Nothing creepy," He clarified, "Just noticed you're a good soldier. I think you have a lot of potential, and if you do this and beat Drake and you want to be Alpha, you can. I'll help you." I know that my surprised face looked stupid, and my shocked and surprised face had to look even worse but at the moment I didn't care. "I'm serious, I just want peace for our Family; peace for every Family in New York. If that means bowing to you instead of Irbis, that's fine, If you help us get there, I'd bow to whoever you told me to." I felt swoony and a little powerful.
