I was staring at the sunrise through the window, captivated by the beautiful colors the sky had, when a strong hit on the head made me react. "Why are you spacing out again?! I told you to go and water the cabbage and the watermelons at the allotment*!" yelled my mother, giving me another blow on the head with the broom. "I-I'm sorry" I said taking the watering can she handed me.

"You better hurry the fuck up, I need you to go to the market and get some stuff " she said as she walked out the room. Jeez, she didn't needed to hit me THAT hard, I thought while rubbing my head.
When I was done watering the vegetables, I looked for my mother to see what she needed me to buy. She was fertilizing some plants; she gave me a basket, money and a market list. "Be sure to get the cheapest stuff" she said giving me a cold look "I want you here before noon" she said returning to her activities. "Yes" I replied and went to change my dirty kimono for a clean, blue one.

I was walking by the small river that connected to the village's market with my basket in both hands, when I head a voice call my name "Yuu!" I looked back and saw my bestfriend running towards me, seconds later I was tackled, "Kou! you'll make me fall!" I complained as I tryed to blance my body with the extra weight, he giggled and stepped back. He was wearing a bright purple kimono with a flower design, and his hair was loose, just as mine. "Sorry, are you going to the market?" he asked eyeing the basket "Yeah, my mother wants me to get some things" I said. "Good! I was also heading over there!" said Kouyou with a bright smile. "Let's go together then" I said and he nodded.

We started walking and talked about random things, when we got there, he told me that he had to run some errands. "I'll see you later at the fountain!" he yelled as he waved and disappeared in the crowd. I went to the stand where I normally buy all the cheap stuff. "Good morning Mrs. Natsuki" I greeted the middle aged woman. "Oh! Good morning Yuu, what do you need this time?" she politlely asked, I took out the list that my mother gave me and handed it to her, "I need this". She looked at the list and gave me a smile, "I believe I have all of this, while I get it, tell me. How's life treating you?" she asked while putting all the stuff from the list on my basket.

"Well..." my mom still treats me like shit and my dad beats the crap out of me "...there's nothing interesting, I just help mom and dad pay small parts of some of the debts by doing housework for some families once in a while; being just famers doesn't help at all" I said. If someone else, besides Kouyou, gets to know that I'm being mistreated by my parents, it's going to be the end of me!

"I see" said Mrs. Natsuki as she finished packing the stuff "Well, I hope your family can pay those debts by the end of the year!" said with a warm smile. "Yes, thank you" I said with a small bow "How much would it be?" I asked "Oh! just ¥2100. I made you a special discount" she said winking me an eye, "Really? Thank you!" I took out the money and gave it to her while grabbing the basket "Thank you again Mrs. Natsuki" I said with a bow "No problem Yuu, have a nice day!" I waved and made my way to the center of the market where the fountain was.

"Kou! Over here!" I yelled as I waved a hand for my honeyblonde friend to spot me. He turned around and saw me, made his way through the crowd and let out a sigh when he finally reached me. "Sorry for making you wait! Things took longer than I had expected" he apologized. "Don't worry, it wasn't your fault" I told him with a smile. "For making you wait, what if I invite you some taiyaki?" he asked "Sounds delicious, but I'll have to pass this time, my mother is not the most patient human being on the Earth, you know it" I said with an apollogetical smile "Maybe next time?" I asked, "Sure" he said "In that case you better hurry up and get home" he said with a worried tone. I was just about to say good bye to Kou, when the sound of what seemed to be galloping horses made me and everyone else in the market, turn our heads and look where was that sound coming from.
