Yuu's POV

After the dispute, the general yelled something that sounded like a command, and in less than 10 seconds the house was full of soldiers, he told them something I didn't heard very well in a very low voice and to stay vigilant. Three soldiers then went to my father and surrounded him, they put his arms behind his back, preventing him from doing any other aggressive act, the general looked at him with disgust.
But who could blame him?

I tried to stand up but failed as I felt a sharp pain near my ribs and stomach. Kou helped me to get up of the cold and dusty floor. He took my left hand and pass it through his shoulders so I could stand and support my weight on him, and with his right hand he grabbed me by my waist. Akira-sama then told us to go to my room and pack my belongings with a soft voice. We nodded and slowly walked to my room.

The old room where I stayed was illuminated with the soft yellowish-orange rays of sunlight that entered through a small window. We sarted to pack everything in complete silence, a bit startled by the recent event. I packed all my kimonos, yukatas and getas* that weren't torn or worn out, and all the little gifts Kou had given to me. He packed all my books and helped me fold my cothes.
When I finished, I walked to the window and stared at the hiding sun. I felt empty but I also had this urge to cry. Shouldn't I feel happy because I'll be finally away from my abusive parents?

I felt a warm hand on my shoulder, comforting me. I didn't need to look to see who it was. I recognized it, it was the same hand that had supported me for so many years. "Kou..." He slowly moved his hand down, until he reached my waist. He then hugged me tightly, could feel him shaking violently. "Yuu, I-" he said, his voice cracking, trying not to cry. I turned around and took his face gently in my hands, I wiped a tear that was running down his cheek. "You'll make me cry too" I said with teary eyes.

Yes, this is the reason why I feel sad, I just can't leave my best friend in this village alone.

A knock on the door startled us. "Yuu? Can we come in?" Akira-sama asked from the other side of the door. "Ah! Yes..." We parted from each other and wiped our tears. The door opened, Akira-sama and his general entered the room. By the way Akira-sama looked at us, I can tell that he probably knows that we were crying. "Have you packed all your belongings, Yuu?" I silently nodded. Kou was still shaking at my side, silence filled the room. "Um, You know... I've been thinking this and an extra hand won't hurt anyone, so if you'd like..." Akira-sama said as he scratched the back if his head "...Your friend can come with you as well." I couldn't believe what my ears had heard.

Kou could come? He wouldn't be alone? We could stay together?

I turn my head and looked at him, his face clearly said that he couldn't believe it either. His eyes were wide open and so was his mouth. "What do you say?" Akira-sama kindly asked. That brought Kou back to reality. "I-uh, well I-I Yes!" he stammered with a big smile. We ran into each others arms and cried tears of happiness.

"Will your parents be okay with you moving out?" the general asked, with what I think it was a hint of embarrassment? Shame? Perhaps because a few minutes earlier Kou had "scolded" him for not doing anything when my father hit me?
