Cognitive Dissonance

I just wanted to write a happy poem about you.
On everything I love, it was just too hard to do.

I put my pen to the paper,
But my mind drifted to hell and thought about you.

I swear we had good times,
But it's all covered up in gloom.

You ran away because I was too good to you.
I'm sorry that I didn't use and take advantage of you.

I told you I was a good guy,
You said that's a red flag for you.

I think I was more happy about the idea of you
Over me actually loving you.

When I think of heaven,
There's nothing to reflect you.

The happiness in this poem is that I finally got closure about you,
Even though it was never about you.
It was the cognitive dissonance I drew.
