Mridula's POV

After days of accompanying Dhanraj Uncle to visit his supporters, I had finally gotten time to spend with Uday.

I was supposed to visit one of the villages that comes under Dhanraj Uncle's electoral district.

And I had asked Uday to come along. I stared at the man sitting next to me. He was busy reading a file. This man brought work along with him.

I huffed and he glanced at me. I could see trees pass by through the car window behind him. It was already late evening.

"You were busy even in the village. You didn't even talk to the villagers."

"You were working and so was I, Mridula." He pointed out. He is still mad that his father didn't ask for his help. Men and their ego! It always does them more damage than good!

"But I brought you along to spend time with you." I saw Zahir glance at us through the mirror and I realized what I said.

Uday stared at me and then his lips curled up in a smirk. God, now, I am finding his smirk gorgeous!

He kept the file down and leaned over to my side. "And how do you suggest we spend time together?"

"I don't know." I said and my voice felt slightly breathless. He glanced at my lips before holding my gaze.

"Hmm, and how I want to spend time with you is best avoided in the open."

"What?" I knew what he meant and I wanted him to clearly speak it out.

"Nothing." He said as he turned his focus outside.

We crossed another village and I saw a change in him. He turned grim and stared at the file. His knuckles were white with how tightly he was holding that document.

"Are you alright?" He just hummed.

We had traveled a fair distance before the car stopped abruptly and I heard Uday curse in annoyance.

Zahir got down and opened the bonnet of the car to check.

I had sent the other cars and guards back to not raise suspicion as we traveled long haul distances. I thought we didn't need unnecessary entourage with us. But now, it was turning out to be a wrong decision.

"We will have to call for another car, Yuvraj." Zahir informed us.

"There is a village nearby. We should take help from them." I said as I looked at Uday. He didn't seem pleased with the suggestion.

"No, we will wait." He said with a stern tone. I held his hand but it didn't seem to affect him.

"Uday, please. I am very tired. We can stay in that village for the night." I requested. He stared at me for a good moment before he pulled his hand back.

"No, Mridula." He snapped at me with an affirmative tone.

"Zahir, call for another car..." Zahir nodded and he waited for me to continue.

"And you and I will go to that village." I told him, completely ignoring my husband.

"Mridula..." I didn't wait for what my husband had to say and moved out of the car. He can wait here alone.

I glanced at Zahir the minute I stepped out, silently gesturing to him to follow me.

I looked up at the dark sky and sighed as I started walking. The village was a little further but we don't have much of a choice.
