Kakashi slept out on the couch last night.
This morning he hasn't spoken to me.
I watch as he walks past me and slips a white shirt on over his head.
He stops in front of the mirror before grabbing his bag. He leaves without a word.
I sit and sulk, looking out the window all day.
It's not until nightfall that he returns.
I hear the door open and close. Then the sound of his bag and keys being set on the table.
I don't dare to turn around so I just continue watching the rain splash in the puddles.
Kakashi reads one of his books for a while in the bedroom before turning off the light. I sit in the dark living room on the floor.
The rain starts picking back up.
I silently walk out the door and find my way outside.
The smell of the rain and wet earth is comforting in a strange way.
I walk down the familiar paths that circle the building.
The sky is black and I can't see the tree line.
I wait outside for around an hour. I'm not sure why.
Maybe I thought someone would notice me.
Nothing.
I walk into the rain.
My feet sinking into the mud.
I walk and walk
By the time I see where my feet have taken me it's too far to turn back.
I continue walking the mud turning into rocks and sand.
I unsheath my knife and drag it down the side of my upper arm.
I scrape the raised skin off. I smile even though I know the dammed thing will return when the skin grows back.
The rain maintains its force and I walk into the salty water.
I laugh when the water burns my skin.
I splash the warm water on my face.
I sit on the edge of the water and let the small waves splash on my legs.
...
When I return back to the village I spot Kakashi looking at me from the balcony.
I walk in with my head down.
The door to our room is unlocked and I enter quietly.
Kakashi is still on the balcony.
I pass him and grab dry clothes from my drawer.
After I get out of my sandy clothes I go lean out on the balcony rail by Kakashi.
We sit in silence for only a short while.
Kakashi clears his throat.
"Where'd you go?" He asks.
"The oceans edge." I say.
"Why?" He asks not looking at me.
"I—honestly?" I ask.
"Of course." He replies softly.
