TAYLOR WAS NOW going to the US Open finals! As an American that is such a big deal and he even became the first American man to go reach the US Open finals since 2006.
Taylor had beat Carabelli, Berrettini, Comesana, Ruud, Zverev, and fellow countyman Frances Tiafoe to reach the finals. His upcoming opponent was none other then Jannik Sinner who is ranked #1 in the world!
I was really nervous for Taylor but I didn't let it show. Taylor's team and I made sure that we were going to cheer for him no matter what.
The first set didn't go as planned and Taylor lost 6-3. Taylor ended up having a better ace record that set with 2 aces.
The second set Taylor did better than the first set but it wasn't good enough to win. Taylor lost that set as well 6-4.
The next set seemed to be much better than the prior sets. Taylor was making smarter shots and plays. I seriously thought Taylor was going to make a big comeback and end up winning the match. Taylor ended up loosing set 3, 7-5, meaning Jannik Sinner was the new US Open champion.
During the award ceremony you could tell it was bothering Taylor. We met after the match inside of the locker rooms.
I opening my arms and Taylor ran into them. "Your okay baby, you still gave it your all which is all that matters." I tell him. Those words seemed to push a nerve because right after I said that he busted out in tears.
"I didn't play well enough, I'm a failure." He says. I get out of the hug and put my hands on his cheeks. "Don't say that. You played great but today just wasn't your day and that's okay!"
Taylor then gives me a sweet and loving kiss on the lips. "Thank you, for everything." He says. You just smile and peck him on lips. "Always."
