CHAPTER ELEVEN

"I think I have tried every single ice cream flavor apart from mint chocolate chip." I mused, watching Kol devour his ice cream as we casually strolled alongside a river.

After the difficult start to the day, I had begun to feel rather stir crazy. Kol suggested that we go for a drive and we ended up in a quaint town. Kol's eyes had lit up with glee the moment he spotted the ice cream parlor and he practically dragged me there.

"It is the best flavor!" Kol said passionately, holding his half eaten ice cream proudly.

"I'm too scared to try it," I admitted, looking down at the strawberry ice cream I had chosen for myself. "It's basically a chocolate toothpaste flavor!"

Kol sent me a look of mock outrage, "It does not taste like toothpaste! Besides, I think that strawberry ice cream tastes like medicine."

I frowned up at him and asked, "You're a vampire, how do you know what medicine tastes like?"

"Morbid curiosity." Kol shrugged and I rolled my eyes playfully.

"Well, I happen to like the taste of strawberry medicine." I said, taking a long lick of my ice cream.

"I think that you should try some chocolate toothpaste, Kresley." Kol grinned, holding his ice cream out.

"No way!" I chuckled in disbelief, "It is literally covered in your saliva!"

Kol's eyes went wide and he put a hand on his chest in mock offense. He dramatically asked, "What's wrong with my saliva?"

"It's gross!" I laughed.

"So you would find kissing me gross then?" Kol challenged cheekily. My lips parted in shock and I felt my face heat up at his words.

"Kissing is different!" I argued, stumbling over my words slightly.

"Is it?" Kol grinned, "So you would rather kiss me than try my ice cream?"

"No!" I blatantly lied and he raised an eyebrow. I felt my face grow redder as I said, "Fine, yes! I would rather kiss you than have to consume that chocolate toothpaste that you have been drooling on!"

A peaceful silence fell over us and we ceased our walking to look at the river. The sound of the river was incredibly soothing and I smiled as I watched the water flow. Kol wrapped an arm around my shoulder as we watched the ducks in silence. We finished off our ice creams before continuing our leisurely stroll.

Without thinking it through, I grabbed his hand, the instinct feeling so natural. I smiled when he pulled me closer and intertwined our fingers.

"How are you feeling, Kresley?" Kol asked carefully before clarifying, "I'm worried that I pressured you into telling me and I just want to make sure you're okay."

I smiled softly, "You didn't pressure me Kol, you provided a safe place for me to finally tell someone. It was difficult but I feel like a weight has been lifted from my chest."

Kol nodded, a relieved look flashing across his face, "Thank you for telling me, Kresley. I'm glad that you felt comfortable enough to confide in me. I am here if you ever want to talk."

"Thanks, Kol," I replied, several emotions flooding through me, "Thank you for being so understanding. I know that it must be difficult to hear that your only chance of having biological children is gone."

"I am already the luckiest man in the world because I get to spend time with you." Kol replied softly, "Having children is not my priority, you are."

"It's okay if you're sad, though." I told him, not wanting him to suppress any emotions on my account, "It's my biggest regret so I completely understand why it might affect you."

"Do you want children, then?" Kol asked thoughtfully, looking down at me softly.

"I'm not sure," I shrugged, "But I'm angry that I no longer have a choice."

"Should you ever decide that you wish for children, there may be a way to reverse it. I don't want to get your hopes up but there are several witches that specialize in fertility, who may be able to help." Kol informed me and my eyes widened at the discovery, "But either way, I will be there for you whatever you choose."

"Thanks, Kol." I smiled up at him.

The moment ended when we heard a nearby goose honk. I warily watched the bird, whose eyes were fixed in our direction. Kol visibly gulped and I turned to him in disbelief.

"You're a thousand year old vampire!" I accused him.

"And you're a pretty little witch! What's your point?" Kol asked, narrowing his eyes at me before jolting when the goose honked again.

"You're a thousand year old vampire and you're scared of a goose!"

"No I'm not!" Kol denied, his eyes nervously darting towards the animal.

"You definitely are!"

"You're scared too!" Kol accused childishly as he pointed a finger in my direction.

"I'm allowed to be!" I shrugged, "I would be vanquished in a goose fight."

The goose honked again and we both visibly recoiled.

"Come on, Kresley!" Kol said, tugging on my hand, "Let's get away from the nasty bird.

The goose watched us through narrowed eyes as we ran away.

It was dark by the time we made it back to the car. I had to force my eyes to stay open as we began the drive back home. I leant my head on the window and tapped my fingers on my knee to the rhythm of the mellow music on the radio. I kept sneaking peeks at Kol's hand every time he had to change gear, finding the action weirdly attractive.

"You can go to sleep if you want?" Kol suggested.

"I can't sleep in a car," I grumbled, "I'm too hypervigilant to fall asleep during a journey. It's a side effect of having shitty parents."

"It's a two hour drive, Kresley." Kol grimaced.

"That sucks!" I said with a yawn, feeling a headache start to come on.

"It's just a suggestion but we could always crash at Finn's place. It's only about 45 minutes from our current location." Kol suggested slowly, "Finn won't even be there, he'll be visiting my sister for a couple more days."

After weighing my options for a moment, I nodded, "Okay, as long as Finn doesn't mind us staying there. Will Sidney be alright on her own until tomorrow?"

"My neighbor has a key," Kol announced with a small smile, "I will text her and ask her to check on Sid."

"Then I guess we're going to Finn's house.”

A/N: I thought I'd write a short, light hearted chapter for you all since the previous chapter was rather heavy. I hope you enjoyed it!
