Dylan and Katie walked through the crowded lobby of the theater, their excitement palpable as they clutched their tickets for Batman. The anticipation for the movie had been building for weeks—the one night they would indulge in their shared love for the superhero played by Michael Keaton. It was supposed to be a fun, with Tiffany and Marissa not coming they'd both be able to actually enjoy the film without having to hear an earful from the two complaining about how nerdy it was. Even despite how much it was being hyped up around school.

"I'm so ready for this," Dylan whispered, adjusting her sweater. "I can't believe we're actually here."

Katie grinned. "It was totally worth it getting here earlier," she gushed, "Look at that fucking line."

Dylan nodded enthusiastically glancing at the crowd of people outside the doors, but before they could head to the also long line for food, they spotted something out of the corner of their eye that made them stop in their tracks. Outside the lobby, Nicholas and Eric were standing at the ticket booth, arguing with the cashier, their frustration evident.

Nicholas and Eric stood outside the glass booth, their faces twisted in frustration as they tried to get the tickets they wanted. The girl behind the booth, a laid-back cashier with curly brunette hair, was clearly unimpressed by their persistent pestering. She was barely awake, her eyes half-lidded as she lazily typed away on the register.

"Are you having trouble hearing me?" Nicholas asked, his voice sharp, a mix of impatience and annoyance. "The 10:00 screening of Batman. That's the one we want to see."

The girl looked up at him with a tired expression, not even bothering to give him a second glance. "Yeah, but it's sold out," she mumbled, tapping a few more keys on the register.

Nicholas, looking like he was about to lose it, leaned forward on the counter. "I know that, but that's the one we wanna see. Can you help me out here? My girlfriend is in there." He added the last part in a casual way, even though, of course, he had no girlfriend. But desperate times called for desperate measures.

Eric, who had been standing off to the side, sighed loudly. "Tell her we'll pay double the ticket price," he suggested, leaning in to speak over Nicholas's shoulder.

But before Nicholas could even respond, Eric took it upon himself to tell the girl, "We'll pay double, just let us in."

The cashier blinked slowly, looking at them like they were asking for the impossible. "I can't sell anymore tickets if there's no more tickets," she said, as though explaining the obvious. "It's theater policy."

Nicholas's patience snapped. He slapped the counter with his hand, his face red with frustration. "Okay, whatever," he muttered through gritted teeth. "Give me two tickets to the 11:00 then," he said, pulling out his wallet dramatically and whipping out a bill.
