Sophia's POV

I wake up the next day, remembering Emmett's words.

"Of course, tomorrow."

I immediately call him. he answers the phone with a tired voice.

"Hello?" he says in a groggy monotone. What time is it? My clock says 7:00 a.m. I never wake up this early. But I did get a ton of sleep yesterday. Wait, what happened yesterday?

"Emmett?" I hastily say. So much excitement in my voice. I'm practically gasping for answers.

The desperation in my voice wakes him up. "Soph," he tells me all about what happened yesterday. With Emmy, the licence plate, everything. And I am amazed at how much I missed.

I go silent for a few seconds, unsure of what I should say. I'm happy about getting more clues, but let down that we still are far away from getting Emmy back. And scared at what these people could possibly be doing to her. I'm a mess. A silent tear rolls down my cheek.

"Soph?" Emmett says, "You still there?"

"Yeah, yeah," I say, "it's just a little early and I'm still tired. I think I'm going to go back to sleep. I'll... talk to you later," I say nonchalantly.

"Okay," he says, a hint of worry in his tone, "um, bye."

I hang up without saying bye. I am not the least bit tired. I'm wide awake. And it's time to get down to business.

I call the police station.

"Miss Sophia," they greet me pleasantly. So I see they have memorized my number. Fabulous.

"Hi, um, I've seemed to have found the licence plate number of the car Emerald was take in," I say a little too casually.

There is a slight moment of silence on the phone. "Are you serious?"

"I'm completely serious," I say with a little giggle in my voice. "In fact it's U4N-2SV."

"This is marvelous, Miss Sophia, thank you. We'll track this number right away."

"Thank you," I say. Hanging up, I conclude our conversation.

Still sitting on my bed, a slight smile curls up at the corner of my mouth. I bite my lip, wondering if this is real. And it 100% is.

-----

About three hours later I get a call back from the police station.

"Miss Sophia, it seems we have tracked down the licence plate to a location. We had a unit go down there and search it for anything. We did see the car, but the place is empty, vacant, abandoned."

I'm suddenly perplexed. "Ma'am, could I have the address of the the place your unit searched?"

"Yes I could do that, but I do advise you to not go anywhere near it for safety reasons."

"You have my word," I lie.

She gives me the address and I go straight to Emmett's house.

He can hardly believe his eyes when he looks at the address. We both have huge smiles on our faces.

"God, I underestimate you," he says.

"Oh, shut up," I say playfully punching him in the arm.

I hug him and then all of a sudden my feet leave the floor. He picks me up off the ground and I squeal. I was not expecting that.

He sets me back down after a couple seconds and I look up at him, surprise in my eyes. His too. His hands still settled on my waist.

He feels this awkward space between us too, and quickly tries to cover it up.

"Well, we should go right now," he says, haste in his tone, and I agree. Not speaking of the little intimate moment we just had.

-----

We get out of his ancient, beaten up orange Chevy with the dent in the side. Closing the door, I lock the the old musky scent inside. The smell is kind of comforting in a way. It smells like protection.

The drive was nearly an hour and a half away. It's almost noon.

"Should we split up?" he suggests.

"No!" I say a bit too quickly.

"Okay, relax. I won't leave your side."

I let out a sigh I didn't know I was holding. This place is too creepy to walk around alone.

The door to this place is made of wood with probably 40 year old paint on it. The rest of the place is metal. Even the roof. There is an old orange cat on the roof when I look up. I snicker a little when is meows at us and hops off. Strolling away. I guess just a common stray.

Emmett opens the door and walks in and I follow him. It's just a big warehouse. No rooms. Empty. Just like the lady said. We walk around, not very scared anymore.

The door creaks open and startles both of us. We turn to look at it. We both sigh when we realize it was just the cat.

But then the cat glances beyond us and hisses. Emmett and I both turn back and a man in complete black is standing there. We can't see his face behind the ski mask he is wearing.

"What are you doing here?" he scolds.

We say nothing and run back out the door. The cat is no where to be seen. We jump in the car and Emmett floors it. I looking the door once again and the man it staring at us, but he hasn't moved. I notice a curtain behind him. So this isn't a one room building. He had to have come out of there.

"We need to come back tomorrow," I tell Emmett.

"Are you insane?! What kind of dare devil are you?!"

"There's a back room, that's where that man came from. What if Emmy is in there?"

He doesn't say anything for a little bit. But then pipes up again.

"We'll come more prepared. Pepper spray, flash lights, the works."

This satisfies me. We are getting close to answers I never thought we could have gotten.
