an Outer Banks fanfiction

Just the same way you showed me (you showed). If you could die and come back to life, up for air from the swimming pool, you'd kneel down to the dry land; kiss the Earth that birthed you; gave you tools just to stay alive, and make it out when the sun is ruined

──── (SYNOPSIS)

Up until she was sixteen, Delanie O'Malley saw life through rose-colored glasses.

Despite her parents' fragile and fleeting relationship, Delanie's sense of stability changed when her mother, Rose, met and fell in love with Ward Cameron-the king of the Outer Banks' social hierarchy. Delanie and Rose were quickly swept into the glamorous world of Figure 8, where life became a mix of flashy cars, designer clothes, and seemingly endless wealth.

Although, the shift in status wasn't without its challenges. Delanie felt like an outsider in the eyes of the Cameron siblings, plagued by imposter syndrome that reminded her she could never truly belong among the Camerons-no matter how hard their parents tried to unite them. Everybody she surrounded herself with were one dimensional, shallow souls with little sense of adventure. It also didn't help that every Kook she ever dated treated her like a show pony rather than an actual living human being.

But as time passed and tensions slowly eased, the luxurious life Delanie had been promised finally materialized. Everything seemed as perfect as it could be-until Sarah Cameron, Delanie's stepsister, got entangled with the dangerous side of the island after Hurricane Agatha. Family dinners devolved into chaos, whispers of secrets haunted the halls of Tannyhill, and talk of the lost gold from the Royal Merchant became strictly off-limits.

For a time, Delanie's world unraveled as Sarah's involvement with the Pogues spiraled into murder, disappearances, and deadly games. The pedestal she'd been placed upon began to crack, and Delanie spent many sleepless nights wondering when it would all come crashing down. Sarah was presumed dead, the Sheriff was killed, and the Cameron family were standing right in the midst of it all. But with money comes power, and surprisingly, life returned to a twisted sense of normalcy-even as rumors swirled about Ward Cameron's connection to the growing body count.

That is, until Delanie receives a call from beyond the grave, shattering her illusions and ripping away the protective bubble that had shielded her for so long.
