One year later~

"Your father called," Taehyung said, his voice calm yet deliberate.Jungkook's eyes flickered up from the book she was reading, her expression stiff as the memories from the past year replayed in her mind. Her father, a man who had been absent for so long, finally reaching out.She swallowed hard, unsure of what to feel. After a beat, she asked quietly, "Wh-what did he say?"

Taehyung exhaled softly, a mix of frustration and resignation. He placed his hand gently on her bare thigh, his thumb drawing slow circles over her pale skin. The touch was so familiar, so comforting, but it stirred a different kind of ease in Jungkook as the fabric of her skirt inched upward, exposing more of her thigh.

"He called us for dinner," Taehyung responded, his voice soothing. He kept his eyes on the road but couldn't resist drawing small patterns on her skin, offering the comfort of his touch. Jungkook shuddered slightly, she nodded, trying to hold back her emotions.

"Will you go?" she asked, the words feeling heavier than she intended.Taehyung leaned back in his seat, his posture relaxed as he drove. His gaze lingered on the road ahead, but his expression was thoughtful. "Do you want to?" he replied, his voice low, as if sensing the turmoil in her heart.

Jungkook looked down at her lap, her fingers tracing the veins on her hand absentmindedly, the soft hum of the car the only sound filling the space between them. She let out a small sigh, her voice barely audible. "Don't know~". The uncertainty in her tone didn't escape Taehyung. He glanced at her for a brief moment, his expression soft but serious. He could feel her hesitation, the internal struggle she was facing. It was clear she was torn, and he understood that.

"Let's see what he wants, hm?" Taehyung said, his voice steady, but his actions spoke volumes as he shifted in his seat and pressed down on the accelerator. The car sped up, the wind outside picking up as they moved through the streets.

As the car's speed increased, so did Jungkook's unease. Her heart began to race in sync with the rising momentum, a knot forming in her stomach at the thought of meeting her family again. The family that had once, so carelessly, sold her off to a stranger—sold her to Taehyung, with the sole purpose of relieving themselves from the burden of raising her.

Her fingers gripped the book tightly, but her mind wandered to dark corners. The memories of the past year resurfaced, uninvited—memories of her family's cold indifference, the feeling of being discarded, as if she had no value beyond being a pawn in their financial troubles. She felt the poundage of it all, and for a brief moment, she wished she could push those thoughts away.

But Taehyung, sensing her discomfort, glanced over at her. His gaze softened as he kept his focus on the road, but his hand subtly moved to rest on hers, offering a silent comfort. "You don't have to go if you're not ready," he said, his voice low and gentle. "I'm with you, okay?"
