One of my favorite parts about big cities was the layer of smog that hovered above the buildings, the tips of the skyscrapers disappearing into the clouds. I guess I was tall enough to be up there with all of that because that was how I felt for most of my life, looking back on it now. I could get along alright, but nothing was clear. Nothing was solid.

Until she came along. All of it was an accident. But what a beautiful accident she was. I knew that if anything had happened differently, we would have never crossed paths. But we did.

She held me above the clouds, letting me see the sun at day and the millions of stars at night. My existence was suddenly clear and bright and something.

When suddenly, all of that disappeared into the clouds, along with me. I dropped back right back down into the darkness, right back to stumbling, right back to nothing.

Kay. Where'd you go?
