Dawn began to awaken again, and I was woken up by the beautiful sound of birds chirping their lullabies. I stretched and let out a loud yawn, before getting out of bed. I looked in the mirror and groaned, yet again, my fiery auburn hair is a complete mess – a bird’s nest would look neat in comparison. I stripped out of my pyjamas and into my school uniform and then picked up my hair brush.
I let out a large breath. “Come on, I can do this,” I muttered to myself.
I dragged the brush through my hair, wrinkling my nose and wincing as I painfully took out the knots. Once I looked in the mirror to make sure my hair is slightly more presentable, I let out an audible sigh and then left for school.
Once I entered the school, I headed straight to the club organisation hall - to register my club – and find that it was filled with many of the students that attend the school. Squinting, I looked around and caught sight of Riva and Evangeline calling me over to them excitedly. Evangeline pointed at an old book in her hand dramatically, before she gently placed it onto the table next to her.
‘’What’s this?’’ I asked her when I finally reached them. I picked up the book and ran my hands over it as I examined it.
The book is just the kind of thing that would spark our interest – dusty, fading, dark brown leather, and the words – which I presumed was Latin – ‘Dominus Ruptor’ was elegantly sprawled across the front in gothic writing.
I gasped when I saw the metal star of magic underneath the text, decorated with leaves and chains. Evangeline and Riva smiled when they saw my excited expression.
‘’I bought this at the antique store yesterday; it must be original since it’s hand written, ’’ Evangeline said proudly, puffing out her chest.
‘’It looks so old and…antique…was it expensive?’’ Riva asked nervously.
‘’Not at all, I found it in an old pile of sale books,’’ Evangeline said cheerfully.
I looked at the back, and noticed religious markings and crosses. “Hmm…a hand written magic book, from the looks of these markings, I’d say it was probably written by a priest in the Dark Ages.”
“What a find, huh?” Evangeline grinned.
I opened the first page, and frowned when I found out that it’s written in two different languages – Latin and Greek. “This must have been written by more than one person, in different times and places,” I muttered, more to myself as I skimmed through the pages.
A shadow blocked the light which allowed me to make out the words, and I looked up to see a tall figure. Strawberry-blonde hair and light grey eyes hidden behind small glasses looked down at me.
Anastasia, one of Maria’s closest friends, like Maria and most of her associates, Anastasia is vain and self-righteous.
“Excuse me, I came to inform you that your request to start a magic club has been denied,” Anastasia said with a sneer and a vain tone that I’ve heard so many times.
“Denied?” Evangeline whimpered.
“B-But why?” Riva asked, raising her tone. Her face began to go red from rage.
“Did you really think that the school council would let you have such a silly and stupid club?’’ Anastasia said with a beastly grin.
Riva and Evangeline were looking at her with hatred and disappointment but I was more interested in the magic book to actually care about the topic at hand.
“Hold on, don’t you think that’s a little too much? I mean, the whole point of letting us making our own clubs is so there is a wide variety. Now you’re not letting us have that,” Riva said, her face was now bright red, you could tell that her blood was boiling and that she was ready to punch Anastasia.
“I’m just a messenger. If you have a problem, speak to Maria.” Anastasia walked off, bursting with laughter.
‘’WAIT, YOU WHOR-‘’ Riva screamed all too late, as Anastasia was long gone into the corridor.
‘’Riva!’’ Evangeline scolds, holding a kicking Riva back. “We don’t want to cause any trouble.”
Still more interested in the book than the actual club, I resumed to flicking through the book, trying to compare the words I didn’t understand to my dictionary. I worked out that it had tutorials of potion making, spell casting, curse casting and demon summoning, all with annotated pictures to help. This will be very useful.
“Right, Riva, Eva, we need to translate this book. It has some very interesting looking things in here,” I said, as I began rubbing my hands together and grinning.
