I gazed back at Donny, my eyes as cold.
"Let me get this straight," I said. "You want me to go to varsity? For what?!"
He sighed.
"Will you let me finish, please?!"
I went silent.
"Thank you!" He said, and I arched a brow.
"Alright, alright. It's your latest mission."
The last word had me leaning over the table like an eager pup.
"I knew you'd get excited. Now listen here. The organization wants you to attend IUSTEM in Washington DC. There you are to befriend a certain Sebastian Knight, the son of the business tycoon Rilken Knight. You are to get close to him and his family, and it won't be an easy task. Be it seduction or friendship, I don't care. You're going to do everything in your -along with our -power to bring this man down."
"What are his crimes?" I asked lazily.
"Murder, embezzlement, fraud, human trafficking, drug distribution, and among his many other crimes is one that might just give you enough fuel for the entire mission..."
"Spill the beans, Donny," I say with a roll of my eyes.
"Alright, you asked for it. Human experimentation with children as the most frequent victims."
My blood ran cold, and I froze. He was right. This did make me want it more. The memories of the pain I'd endured in that place threatened to escape the box it was trapped in.
"Experimentation?" I gasped out.
"I'm afraid so. That's why you're perfect for the job."
He was right. I was perfect for the job. They didn't call me the Faceless Avenger for no reason. It was because I specialized in jobs like these. Undercover missions. I had no one identity, and my real one had been stolen from me when I was younger. Instead, I had countless identities.
I was excellent at what I did.
"Do...do I have a choice?" I asked.
"No, you don't. Your documentation should be arriving tomorrow. We've already enrolled you and you'll start four days from now on the coming Monday as Natalya Rose, an eighteen year old majoring in Fashion & Design. Assigned to this mission are also Agent Q and Agent Creed. They will act as your parents."
Donny stood up after leaving a brown envelope in my hands. Jeez, moody much?
"Good luck Agent Twilight" he said.
"Thanks D," I murmur.
And then he's gone.
'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.'.
Three days later...
I stared at the girl in the mirror. She had big, round eyes the colour of melted gold, long, thick, butt-length caramel brownish hair and pale skin. She was slim with an athletic figure and tall, standing at 5'6". And...she was about to go to university for the first time in her life after spending twelve years of her life as an undercover spy for the ISC, aka the International Spy Corps and the youngest to ever join them. She had joined them when she was six, and twelve years later, she was eighteen.
"Hey, Nat?" Agent Q, who was assigned to the mission as her Father, called from downstairs of their unnecessarily large manor. "Come down here. You'll be late."
I sighed dejectedly and quickly got dressed. I pulled on a pair of tight blue jeans, a white shirt, and then a black crew neck sweater. I fixed it up so that the collars of the shirt were folded over the neckline of the crew neck.
After pulling my hair back into a thick french braid, I put on plain white sneakers with thick soles that made me look even taller than I actually was. I had pretty small feet though. I mean, at eighteen and I was still at size four?
I grabbed my black satchel of my desk along with my student ID and three textbooks for the three lectures I had that day; The History Of Fabrics, English, and... Literature. Of course. I wondered why they didn't just put me in law, or perhaps criminology, but I figured this way it would be harder for me to get found out.
I made my way downstairs where my mother and father were seated in the living room.
"Morning pops, morning mom," I said casually.
"Morning Nat," Pops said.
"Are you ready?" Mom asked.
I nodded in response.
My mom was an executive figure in the ISC, and so was Pops. They were actually in their early thirties. When I asked them why they didn't just assign older spies to the mission, because who would believe that two thirty year old people could produce an eighteen year old girl, am I right? That would mean they were twelve when they had me.
In reply, I had been informed that this mission required people a lot younger who could still fight excellently.
"Natalya," Mom said seriously. "I have an important meeting today and I'm not sure how long it will take, so your Dad will help you move in, okay?"
I nodded. Meeting was the code we used for missions.
"The Corps has had your room furnished," Pops told me. "All you need is to get there. Now come on, let's get going."
"Bye Mom," I said with a wave.
"See you later Natalya," she replied.
And we were out. We got into Pops' red Ferrari and we drove off at a dangerous speed to the university.
Agent Q(pops- real name is Dennis) was, to the good people of Washington, a neurosurgeon at one of the best hospitals in all of Washington, called the DC State Hospital. This was, of course, just one of his many identities. In our line of work you needed multiple of these, and I had them, only Natalya Rose was a character I had yet to play.
When you become a spy, you willingly give up a chance at a normal life. If you want a relationship, the organization will do everything it can to protect that person of yours if they are not a spy, but it is still a risk. That person's life is at risk, and I'm sure you can guess why.
Another thing.
Once you get in, the only way out is...well screw that. There is no way out. It's a decision you make for life. And you can't tell anyone. It's a secret you carry with you to the grave. I can't imagine how hard it must be for those with family's. I could only guess that they had to lie to them every day. But that's it.
I could only guess, only imagine.
I had no family. I was taken from them before I even knew I had one. I never even met them after I was born, because I was stolen from the hospital a few hours later.
I still felt that pain, and I still yearned for a family of my own, but some things are too impossible. Even to dream about.
"We're here," Dennis announced.
In other words, game on.
The mission has comenced.
