"Yes thank you." Princess Daenyra Targaryen stared at her feet, looking up only to take a lemon cake from the tray of a servant. She overturned the cake in her hands, staring at it for a few moments before tearing bits of cake and throwing them over the railing of the gardens. Watching as four seagulls dove down to eat and pick at the cake. Their wings were ashen and ivory as those of her beloved, she wondered if they felt as he did, or if he felt stuck like they did not.
In a cave, the dragonpit
Besides her Aemond frowned, having already stuffed the cake down his throat, he reached for another piece.
"Daenyra, come." Her brother Daeron grabbed her hand, stopping her from tearing at the cake. "You'll attract half the city's flock."
Daenyra said nothing as her twin brother took the cake from her hand and tore it in two, stuffing one part in his mouth before handing her the other half. "You're supposed to eat it."
"She knows." Remarked Aegon bitterly, as he placed his hand along the railing of the balustrade, peering over to look at the gathering of gulls. "Though I'd wager our sister has come out stupid."
"Shut up." Exclaimed Aemond as he stepped in front of Daenyra, Daeron mirroring him. The two brothers crossed their arms. Ever were they all the target of Aegon's relentless bullying.
"Wherever is Helaena?" Mumbled the eldest son to himself, their mother had ordered him to gather his siblings, and with them already stuffing down cake before dinner and Helaena missing again, the Queen might throw a fit. Sighing deeply as he sat back down and stretched out his arms. "She's in the rosebush, right in the middle of it." Remarked Daeron softly. "Talking to spiders I assume?"
"Well let her be!" Exclaimed Aemond as he sat down besides his older brother and gave him a hard shove.
Aegon groaned in annoyance, ignoring his siblings, he hadn't meant to be bitter to, he just needed to take out his frustrations, his mother loathed, he was the firstborn son ever, to be overlooked as much, ever in Rhaenyra's shadow. The golden child, did he not ride a golden dragon?
In Aegon's eyes, atleast he wasn't as bitter as his mind told him to be. He stared at his youngest sister, his friends had called her dense on sereral ocasions. Daenyra just cried a lot, it didn't paint her as moronic, not in his eyes.
Still he laughed with them, so trying to empty the pit, the twelve year old boy reached for his cup of wine.
"Aren't father and mother supposed to join us?"
Daenyra shrugged, walking away from her brothers, peering over the balustrade again. She had no taste for dessert, tearing the soft pillowy cake into a dozen pieces before throwing them down. Her lips curled as she rested her head atop the balustrade, sighing at the birds.
She had no greater wish than becoming a bird and flying away. She would have loved to fly far, far away.
Staring as the birds dove across the bay, Daenyra imagined doing so herself. At the age of six she was not yet allowed to mount her dragon, despite having asked permission many, many times. Even her father, a Targaryen, who had once ridden the Black Dread, deemed it too dangerous, as her dragon was of the same size as Dreamfyre, and Helaena hadn't yet ridden either, despite having grown close to the blue dragon. Her violet and white Gaelithox would have to wait, the fact that -despite him being Dreamfyre'a age- no one had ever mounted him before, also did not rest easy with the young Princess' parents.
"Daenyra, come, I've called upon you four times now."
Daenyra looked up at her mother's voice, she bit the inside of her cheek. Brows raising at the sight. Her mother stood alone, hands neatly folded into her lap. Helaena appeared behind them, there sat dirt on her cheeks that the princess was trying to wipe off. Daenyra watched as Aegon scoffed and sunk in his chair. He was always so dismissive of Helaena's interests
