Mr Nice Guy

“Just take a seat or whatever, I’ll be back in a sec,” Lana called out to him, heading to her room. She wanted to get out of the wet clothes she was in. Quickly pulling on some black leggings and a long floaty top, she ran a brush through her hair and then headed back out into the living room. Carlos was sprawled out on the leather couch, like the other day, his wet jacket over the back. Lana headed to the chair and sat down, pulling her knees up and hugging them to her chest.

“Sorry, I can take the chair if you want,” Carlos told her, jumping up. “I mean, I’m supposed to be being Mr Nice Guy so it’s only fair if I do.”

“Haha, no, don’t worry. I’m fine here. So...um...what do you want to do?”

“I don’t mind. Don’t feel like you’ve got to stay here with me, though. I mean, if you’ve got stuff to do, just do it.”

“No, s’okay. I was just gonna watch a film anyway.”

“Okay then, go ahead.”

Lana got up and headed to the cupboard where she’d put all the romcoms she’d brought with her from England. She knew Carlos wouldn’t exactly approve of them, but he did say to just go ahead and do what she wanted. She pulled out the first one, not even looking what it was as she grabbed it, then shut the cupboard. It was 27 dresses. She popped it in the DVD player and just settled back into the chair, not looking at Carlos once.

“What’re we watching then,” he asked, and I tossed the box over to him. He took one look at it and let out a groan.

“We can watch something else if you want,” Lana suggested, but he waved his arm to stop her and carefully put the box on the coffee table.

“No. As much as I bloody hate romcoms, no. Usually I would say no to it, I’m not the sort of guy who would watch one just to please a girl, like other guys I know. But I’m supposed to be showing my nice side, so just this once I’ll make an exception. But play it quickly, before I change my mind, please,” Carlos laughed, and Lana couldn’t help but laugh as well.

The movie started and Lana got caught up in it immediately. She really did love that movie. Especially the beginning, with her being at multiple weddings and the rushing back and forward and the cab driver. She laughed pretty much every five seconds, and was glued to the screen when she woke up and James Marsden was looking down at her. God he was hot. Lana could feel someone was watching her. She turned around and looked at Carlos, and sure enough, he was staring at her rather than at the TV.

“What?” she asked, raising her eyebrows questioningly.

He shook his head and laughed. “Nothing- just you. You’re laughing at every single thing and aren’t taking your eyes off it. Weird, but cute. I don’t see the point in this all really.”

“You’ll see soon enough. I’ll make sure of it, that’s a promise,” Lana told him, then turned back to the TV.

Everything was silent for a while, all until the movie got to the point where Jane and Casey are talking and George walks in and talks about the breakfast burrito and then when he’s gone Jane says that she loves him. That was when Carlos started to talk.

“Excuse me, but why is she in love with him? He makes her do everything for him, and he’s not even good looking, so do you mind explaining why?”

“Haha, to be honest I don’t really know. He’s nice, and he does have a certain charm to him, but he’s not that good looking.” Carlos just nodded back and then started to watch it again.

After that he interrupted through the whole thing.

“Oh my god Tess is so fake! What the hell does he even see in her?”
