Chapter 7: Reaching out

Standing outside my apartment building, the words settling into something real. Id planned on heading straight inside, locking myself away for another night of pretending I was fine, even though truly I'd be moping around in bed all day.

My thoughts are running straight back to our small argument, the way I shut him out when he was only trying to help. Being hung up on, it sucked.

I knew I couldn't keep things going like this. Before he leaves for London with Priyanka and Malti, I needed to make things right.

With a sudden boost, I turn around and start walking. Do I take my car? Hell no I'm too lazy.

The busy streets of New York, filling my ears as I take each step closer to my brothers rented place that's not too far from mine, a temporary spot for their visit.

I take a breath, before getting the courage to knock on the door.

A few seconds later, Nick opened it, his expression from surprise to curiosity.

"Joe?" He asked, eyebrows raised. He stepped aside, gesturing me to come in. "Didnt expect to see you here."

As he closes the door, I let out a low laugh. "Yeah I wasn't sure I'd make it here, either," running a hand through my hair. "You said to speak to you when I'm ready to talk so I'm re-"

"Joeyyyy!!!!!!!" I hear a voice fulfil my ears, calming my nerves down.

"Malti?" I put a shocked expression on, turning around, lifting her up into my arms, as she wraps her tiny arms around me.

I could see Nick smiling from the corner of my eye, seeing priyanka step out from the room, her face surprised aswell seeing I'm here.

"Hey" I let out with a sigh, Nick gives Priyanka a look, then looking at malti.

"Okay princess let's go in here for abit while uncle Joe and daddy talk okay?" Priyanka says, smiling back at me before lifting her out of my arms, leaving us alone.

Nick looks at me, gesturing to follow him into the living room, both of us taking a seat as the silence fills the air for a few moments.

I finally break the silence. "Nick, I owe you an apology. I've been so caught up on the divorce and my kids and-" Nick stops me by putting a hand on my shoulder before he says, "I know."

He lets out a sigh turning his whole body to me giving me all the attention, "I get it, i pushed a nerve and I wouldn't leave you alone. I constantly begged you to get help and for you to sort yourself out. You were right I have no idea how you feel, but you don't have to deal with this on your own, heck I'm shocked you're even here right now. The state you were in I had to basically push you to go outside."

I took a deep breath, looking at Nick as I gathered my thoughts, should I tell him about the girl, I'm unsure of how he's gonna react, but I figured it's worth sharing.

"Actually, that's what I wanna talk to you about aswell." I said, shifting in my seat. Nick looks at me, sensing my changes in tone.

"What's up?" he asked, leaning forward a little.

I ran a hand through my hair , trying to figure out how to phrase it. "I met someone tonight, someone who kind of, I don't know, gave me a little push."
