Afraid. That's one emotion you could describe me feeling. Another would be annoyed. Here I am. Working at my minimum wage job as a waiter in this stupid cafe called: Jolly Coffee. Ironic. I'm standing here, with a tray in my hand, getting yelled at by a woman who doesn't even know me. I don't even know her, nor do I want to. I stare at her with a bored-like expression. She kept yelling and nagging that her coffee wasn't iced enough. Really? She's acting like a little kid because of that? I hate my job. I sigh. Wasn't a good move on my part because that just riled her up even more. I glance around the cafe. Many of the people looked at us. Some had worried looks, and others had a look I make daily, especially in this job. I then gave my co-worker, Liliah, a look of plea. She gave me a sympathetic look. She sighed and walked over and placed her bony hand on the woman's shoulder.
"Ma'am, I am going to have to ask you to leave," Liliah said quietly and softly.
The woman looked at her. She furrowed her neatly done eyebrows. "Tell this...." She looked me up and down, "Tell this man that he needs to do his coffee right, or he shouldn't be working here!" She argued.
"Yes, ma'am, we are sorry. But I can't tolerate this behavior in the cafe. Please leave" Liliah said back.
"Fine! But I'm never coming here again! Not when stupid blondes and stupid faggots work here!" The cafe went even more silent.
I watched in anger as the woman stomped away slamming the cafe door closed. The bell rang 5 times louder than normal. I gripped the tray in my hand tightly. Of course, as someone who is in the homosexual category, I'm used to this. But it still angers me to no end that someone like that woman exists on this earth. Liliah looked at me and frowned. She then faced the crowd of people. "I apologize for this inconvenience! Please forgive us." She gave everyone a slight bow. I clenched my jaw and walked behind the counter. I placed the tray down. I looked at the food, I noticed the tag. It was for the woman who yelled at me. Her name was Maria Franches. I narrowed my eyes and sighed. I noticed movement beside me. I looked up and saw Liliah staring at me. She was in the middle of making a mocha. I quickly looked away.
"Kita..." She started. I didn't want her to start. Not right now.
"Liliah, please. Just..don't." I say weakly.
She slowly walks over to me. She rested her hand on my back.
"Kita, don't listen to that woman. She's just an asshole who doesn't have anything going for her except death." Liliah's voice was soft sounding and gentle.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, "you're right. I've been through that type of bullying before and I've managed to survive. What's an old hag?" I chuckle.
Liliah smiled at me. She finished the mocha and placed it on the black tray. "Order number 57! Iced mocha!" She called out. A man with dark hair and brown eyes came. He looked handsome. He caught my eyes and I quickly looked away. Liliah noticed our small interaction and once the man had left she gave me a smirk."Looks like someone has a small crush" She whispered as she walked closer to me. I rolled my eyes and stood up straight.
"No way! I don't even know him! Or do I even know he's gay!" I crossed my arms. Liliah took her turn to roll her own eyes.
"Oh Kita, my dear Kita. This is why you're still single! You need to take a chance! You need to be the one to step up sometimes!"
"Liliah..." I sighed. She's right and I know it. But I won't ever accept it. At least not with words from my mouth. "Whatever, anyway I won't see him ever again so...there," I say quickly.
Liliah gave me a smirk. "Oh really? Look." She glanced at the man, I followed her gaze with my eyes, only to find out that he was looking right at me. I gulped and quickly looked away. Liliah smirked and laughed. I hit her light on her shoulder and arm.
"Shut up!" I say, embarrassed and flustered.
Liliah still managed to laugh at me. I was about to hit her again when the man came walking up to the counter. I stopped and looked at him. He looked at me with his dark brown and sexy eyes. Ack! What am I saying?! Snap out of it. I walk up to the counter. I ignore Liliah's smirk and laugh. The man was taller than me. Most likely about 5'11. Which was tall for me because I'm about 5'9. He set down the cup he had been drinking and left. I raised an eyebrow. "Why would he just place trash on the counter?" I said out loud. Mostly to myself. I watched his broad back as he went out of the cafe. My eyes then traveled down to the empty cup. I took it into my hands and examined it. My eyes widened when I noticed the number on the side of the cup. I blushed. Hard-core. I set the cup down. I slowly turned to Liliah who still had that damn devilish smirk.
"Was it his number? Are you gonna add him? Are you two gonna date?" She said, rapidly asking me these questions that made my head fuzzy.
I sighed. "Yes, I don't know, and no," I answered.
She frowned and rolled her eyes then smiled again. "Kita! It's so obvious he likes you! Take the chance! You haven't dated since...well since Jack."
I physically winced at the mention of that dreadful name. Jack. My ex. He had good looks that's for sure. But such a cruel and wicked personality. I hated him and what he did to me. It still haunts me. I feel dirty almost every day but I'm...I'm getting better. I slowly looked at Liliah. Her eyes seemed to widen as if she couldn't believe what she just said.
"Kita, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to remind you! I'm so sorry! I-!" "It's okay." I cut off. I shrugged. Not much I can do about it. The only reason I'm not crying about it now is because I ran out of tears from it years ago. Liliah frowned. I sighed and looked at the cup for a moment before taking it into my hand and throwing it into the trash. Love is hopeless. It's all so hopeless. It's such a waste too. Liliah didn't say anything or try to stop me from doing what I did, I silently thanked her. We both then went back to work.
