it was a typical cold winter day amongst the bustling streets of new york city as people manoeuvred about from shop to shop, eagerly spending away their wages for their loved ones for christmas. brightly luminescent decorations (sorry melania) hung from every corner you turned which casted a magical and festive vibe across the city. many people had only cheer and contentment upon their faces which was enough to keep the energy high.

however, the festive cheer wasn't enough to spread joy to some people like delilah. delilah was a 10 year old girl who resided here in the city, just barely surviving. she had just recently lost her mother and everyday felt like a continuous cycle of sadness and sorrow. her dad had walked out on them both when delilah was only a year old and she had no other family members to take care of her. thus, she was left alone finding her purpose in life through a sea of successful people who's only worries at this moment in time were to search for a gift ready for the big day.

one thing that always played on delilah's mind was the images of children like her who happily wandered around with their parents in the big city, making memories and being cheerful. you see, being around people that actually had a loving family was really difficult for her as she deeply wished she could experience that love too. all she would see on their faces was complete admiration and happiness which she hoped she would experience again sometime soon. she had always seen nothing but courage and determination in her mother but now that she was gone it made her feel even more lost in such a big city that was apart of a much bigger world.

she had accepted that patrolling the streets of new york would now become part of a daily routine for her because at that moment, she couldn't think of anything else that could make her situation better. her tearful eyes had been glued to the floor out of fear that she would catch the wide eyes of another kid with a loving family. it would only make her feel worse and cause that sickly feeling in her stomach to become stronger and more overpowering.

as she was just coming up to the curb, she briefly looked up towards the green man on the monitor to signal that she could go, until her gaze wandered over to a large crowd that was forming over at times square. with a hint of curiosity, delilah decided to go over and investigate what all of the commotion was about. it wasn't really that unusual to see big crowds, especially in times square, but this one looked way too big to be just your ordinary street performer.

as soon as delilah got closer, she caught a sight of armed security guards who were positioned by the entrance to a building and some who were stood by a black limo. she squinted her eyes to get a better look at things until the crowd's screams without warning became louder as delilah flinched. she opened her eyes and suddenly became drawn to a very well-dressed woman with silky brunette hair that fell perfectly on her shoulders and around her face. she walked confidently out of the main doors of the building, wearing a signature smile across her face as she moved closer towards the limo. she wore an azure blue jacket, some black pants, a black shirt and an extremely shiny, pearly necklace. but the most captivating feature of all was the iconic platform converses that she wore which surprised delilah but in a good way.

in fact, her WHOLE APPEARANCE surprised delilah as she never would have thought she would see THE VICE PRESIDENT here in new york city on a random december evening. the paparazzi itself had literally grown quadruple the size it was when delilah first arrived not even 5 minutes ago. the blinding shuttering of cameras and cheers from the crowd was all too overwhelming but that all didn't matter as suddenly, delilah had made EYE CONTACT with kamala's eyes. she physically felt her heart skip a beat as she saw that a secret service man had kindly opened up the door for her as she stepped into the posh vehicle.

as soon as the vice president had sat herself inside, the man had shut the door behind her which created that divide between her and the paparazzi. delilah could just make out her fixing her hair before the engine revved and the limo was soon out of sight. at this, the paparazzi began to disband as they, too, couldn't believe they had an encounter with the vice president.

but to delilah, this was just the first encounter.
