it was just past 8 o'clock when kamala was washing away the dishes after their meal. delilah was still sat deep in thought up on the island, debating whether or not to speak up and talk about her life up until this point. something deep inside her heart was telling her that she should get it off her chest but that hidden voice in the back of her mind was telling her not to. it was an odd conflict of emotions flooding her senses and she wasn't sure which one to listen to.
kamala spun herself around after propping away the last plate, smiling warmly at the young girl. "you seem like your very deep in thought about something honey. would you like to tell me what's up?" she wondered, displaying genuine care within her tone of voice. for the millionth time that evening, she felt her heart pound in her chest and that same anxious feeling from before return. "remember it's okay if you don't want to just yet. i'm ready whenever you're ready" she gazed into delilah's hazel eyes who looked back at her with a hint of trust. she noticed that kamala's hands were now positioned on top of hers because she could feel that warm and comforting feeling strike her negative ones.
she took one last look into kamala's deep brown eyes before they landed on their platonic touch. she exhaled softly, carefully choosing her words. "um... i guess it just feels a little out of place here... you see, i've been on the streets ever since my mom died a few years back and i never expected that my life would so suddenly change like this in just a few hours" a sudden imaginary weight had been lifted off her shoulders after saying this. she glanced back up to see kamala smiling back at her sweetly but now there was an even larger feeling of concern in those eyes. "i'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. i bet she was a brilliant, inspiring role model to you. when i first saw you, i had a feeling that there was more to your story than what you gave off. i'm so proud of you. you really are so much braver than you think. i know it isn't easy to speak your mind to someone whom you've only met for a short while, but you pushed through and did the right thing" kamala spoke with gratitude as she hung back a bit. "come here" she motioned her hand for delilah to come round to see her and that she did.
kamala immediately wrapped her arms around delilah once more to fully express her strong emotions. "i'm so, so proud of you sweetie. you've come so far" she whispered softly, pulling back a little to look into delilah's teary eyes before bringing her back in. delilah sniffled, snuggling into kamala's hold and taking in the lingering scent of her perfume. her mind soon felt completely at peace, like nothing could interrupt this moment.
