Jasmin hadn’t planned to see him so soon, and definitely not like this. She was at a high-profile party her father had insisted she attend, even though she wasn’t in the mood for any celebrations. All she could think about was Neha, and the unanswered questions around her death.

But then, in the middle of the crowded hall, she spotted him—Vikram Choudhary. He was surrounded by his people, standing tall with a calm, confident aura. Vikram’s sharp gaze swept over the crowd, and the easy way he moved screamed power and control. People were glancing his way, careful not to come too close, as if afraid of even brushing against him.

Rage bubbled inside her. This was the man who’d been with Neha that night, the last one to see her alive. Jasmin’s blood boiled as she thought about her best friend’s tragic end. Without thinking twice, she pushed her way through the crowd, her heart pounding as she got closer to him.

Finally, she reached him, standing just a few feet away. He noticed her, his dark eyes narrowing slightly, a hint of curiosity flickering across his face. Jasmin didn’t waste a second.

“How dare you!” she spat, her voice low but full of anger.

Vikram raised an eyebrow, clearly taken aback but still calm. “Excuse me?” he replied, his tone almost mocking.

That was it. She couldn’t hold back. The pain, the grief, the anger—it all surged forward, and before she knew it, her hand went up, landing a sharp slap on his cheek. The crowd around them gasped, a shocked silence falling over the room.

Vikram didn’t move, didn’t flinch. He just looked at her, one hand slowly moving to touch his cheek where she had slapped him. His calm gaze met hers, steady and unshaken. There was no anger in his eyes, only something unreadable—a glint of curiosity, almost as if her anger intrigued him.

Jasmin’s chest heaved as she glared at him, her fingers trembling. She wanted to scream at him, to demand answers, to make him feel the pain she felt. “Neha is dead because of you,” she hissed. “You were the last one with her! What did you do to her?”

Vikram’s face remained calm, as if her words didn’t affect him. He looked at her with a small, unreadable smile, his voice calm and controlled. “Dr. Malhotra, I think you have some misunderstandings. But I must admit, you have quite a fiery spirit.”

His cool, collected response only made her more furious. How could he be so calm? Did he feel nothing? Jasmin wanted to scream, to force a reaction out of him, to see him shatter the way she had. But his steady gaze didn’t waver.

“Misunderstandings?” she snapped, her voice shaking. “My best friend is dead! And you… you just stand here like nothing happened. How can you—”

Before she could finish, he leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a low murmur, almost too soft for anyone else to hear. “Miss Malhotra, be careful with your accusations. You’re stepping into dangerous waters.”

For a brief moment, she felt a chill run down her spine. His eyes held a warning, a silent threat, but there was also something else there—a strange, twisted fascination, as if her anger entertained him.

She swallowed, her resolve hardening. “I’m not scared of you, Mr. Choudhary. I will find out the truth. You may be used to people bowing down to you, but I’m not one of them.”

Vikram’s lips curved into a faint smile, an amused expression crossing his face. “Good,” he said, his voice smooth as silk. “I like people who don’t fear me. It keeps things… interesting.”

Jasmin clenched her fists, feeling the fury pulse through her veins. She didn’t know what game he was playing, but she was not going to back down. Without another word, she turned and walked away, her heart pounding, her mind racing.

But even as she left, she could feel his eyes on her back, a strange intensity that left her both unsettled and angry. This wasn’t over—not by a long shot.
