"Oh my God," I uttered fearfully.
After a long moment of staring into the empty bleakness of the alley, I was finally able to snap out of the frozen shock that paralyzed my body to turn around and walk back up to where Jessica was still standing in the road, wide-eyed.
"Do you know that guy she rode off with?" Jessica demanded.
"No!" I responded in a shaken tone, trying to control my panicked breathing. "Should we call the police?"
"I don't know!" she threw her hands up, frustrated. "Had I known she was this insane enough to do that, I wouldn't have even decided to hang out with you two tonight to begin with."
"Don't call her that!" I bit.
"So you don't find going off on a motorcycle with a complete stranger insane?" She asked sharply, crossing her arms across her chest.
"I obviously don't agree with it," I insisted. "But what does calling her insane do for us in the situation to help her?"
Her blue eyes rolled back with annoyance, having no comeback to my inquiry.
"Look, do you want to argue or find Bella?" I asked sternly, glaring at her.
"How would we even do that?" she asked with doubt. "We can't just chase after a speeding motorcycle — we don't even know where they're at now."
I knew she was unfortunately correct.
Attempting to try and find which way he drove off with her would be impossible for us, and utterly pointless. Even if we did make an attempt to dash to the parking lot down the road, and hop in Jessica's car to search for Bella in the dark streets of Port Angeles, who knew how we'd trace them down or know where to search first?
"All I can do is call the police station on my phone, and hopefully they'll be able to track—"
Before I could finish my sentence, I heard the loud skidding sound of a motorbike halting at a sharp stop, close enough that it sounded somewhere nearby, silencing me.
I jerked my head around and scanned the area, not seeing where it could've come from. The other men on motorcycles down the alley we saw before had all already left during Jessica and I's conversation, and I saw no other motorcycles around.
As I continued surveying the area, my eyes froze and widened with relief.
Appearing seemingly out of nowhere, anxiously strolling up the sidewalk behind us was Bella, with both her hands shoved in her jean pockets as she picked up her pace to reach us.
Both Jessica and I let out a relieved sigh as we watched her rush up the sidewalk in our direction.
Further down the stretch of the pavement, I finally spotted the supposed source of the loud swerve of a motorbike I heard before — the same man she rode off with before was parked on the side of the road on his motorcycle next to the sidewalk, which I hadn't noticed before.
