Carlos would look over the fields of Gaul, after leading a successful version of his own French Revolution of 1848, he decided to rest for a while. Coincidentally, the Rhodes Island Landship was nearby, harboring his friends and new found family in another world. He now looks over the fields of northwestern Gaul from a small house there that he bought himself.
"Oi Carlos!" He heard a call, a girl's voice, four of them to be precise. He immediately recognizes them as his friends from the Ursus Students' Self-governing Group.
"Oh it's all of you! How are y'all doing in the landship?" Carlos would ask, as he approaches them.
"Good! Anyways, what are you doing now?" Gummy says as she pondered on why he was outside looking at the fields of northwest Gaul.
"Nothing much, but just... paying respects to those that have passed." He said looking back at the field. It is filled with many bright red flowers, with a perfect blue sky to match as well despite Terra's dystopian atmosphere.
"Did somebody you know die here?" Rosa asked as she looked at him with a solemn face.
"No, it's just that a story was passed down by a poem, or a song if you will." Carlos said as he turned his body to fully face the field before him.
"What's the story about?" Istina asked curiously as she adjusted her glasses.
"Come with me and walk through this field of flowers." He said, as he walks toward the field.
As Carlos steps foot into the field, he smiles, recognizing that these flowers look like poppies. Today was November 11 in his previous world, Earth. This was the date where bloodshed was meant to end. An armistice, a peace, for "The War to End All Wars".
Carlos looks behind him and asks them, "Are you ready to hear this poem or song?"
"Sure, go ahead." Zima replied to him, giving him a smile with a nod of approval.
"Alright then, now join me in this melancholic trip, to honor those that have died." Carlos said as he leads the group into the field of distinctly red flowers.
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow"
"Between the crosses, row on row,"
"That marks our place; and in the sky"
"The larks still bravely singing, fly"
"Scarce heard amidst the guns below"
"We are the dead, short days ago"
"We lived felt dawn, saw sunset glow"
"The dead were loved, and now we lie"
"In Flanders fields, In Flanders fields"
"And now we lie, in Flanders Fields"
"Take up your quarrel with the foe"
"To you from failing hands we throw"
"The torch; be yours to hold it high"
"If ye break faith with us who die"
"We shall not sleep, though poppies grow"
"In Flanders fields, In Flanders fields"
"We shall not sleep though poppies grow"
"In Flanders fields, In Flanders fields..."
"So, how was that?" He asks them.
"Eh... I don't quite understand." Says Leto as she scratches her head.
"Same here..." Zima added.
Carlos sighed, knowing that they probably wouldn't understand it. "Well, it's fine." He said, then goes walking back towards the small house he temporarily lives in. "Well, wanna go have some food?" He asks them.
"Sure!" Gummy yells to him, sounding quite excited.
"Same here, let's go back inside now shall we?" Rosa agrees with Gummy.
"Alright then, let's head back inside now." Carlos then goes back to the house, not before taking one last look at the field of flowers that looks like poppies, saying to himself.
"Lest we forget."
[Note : Greetings Readers! So this is the first special or extra for the story "Arknights : Renewal", and this is something that I created to commemorate the Remembrance Day in my own way through the means of writing. Also, anything included here such as the possible "Gaulish Revolution" I will not yet confirm to be canon in this storyline. Nevertheless, thanks for reading this Remembrance Day special and, lest we forget.]
