A court of courage and valor
Vassa's POV
We didn't have enough time. That was my only thought as I rushed down the stairs of the castle and hurried my way through the hallways. The roaring sounds of cannons and exploding concrete resounded from the walls, and dust poured down from the roof with each hit.
You could hear out the clashing of swords, the battle cries from soldiers and the roaring of demonic creatures all slashing at one another.
How had it come to this?
Screams echoed from the other side of the walls and the battlefield. My men's screams, painful and agonizing pleas and cries as this dark cloud of matter that only seemed to spread devoured them. A dark cloud that disintegrated everything it touched.
I gripped the grimoire tighter to my chest and kept on pushing to run faster feeling the darkness gaining up on me. The cloud of smoke was now nesting on the ceiling and seemed to slowly creep down, closer to me. A darkness that seemed to devour everything it touched, even the flickering lights. If you stared long enough at the dark matter, you could faintly outline the shape of a man's face and its hands trying to reach out and grab you.
One of the hands did reach out for my foot and I tripped. The grip the dark matter had on my ankle burnt and I screamed feeling it disintegrate my skin. The fall sent the grimoire flying from my hands, but I wasted no time, kicked with all my strength and stumbled up then grabbed the book from the floor before the matter could.
Running, barefoot across shattered glass from the windows on the walls, my feet came to a halt and I slammed the doors to the study wide open. Once inside, I turned quickly and shot them back up again, then grabbing a coat rack I pushed it through the handles and hoped for the best, backing away, eyes never leaving the wooden locked entrance. But the dark matter slowly began creeping from the cracks under the doors, and ascending. A dense cloud of black and red, from which cries and screams radiated.
There is nowhere else to run...
A voice echoed from everywhere. A voice so dark and evil that made me shiver and tremble by solely the sound of it. And the voice only seemed to grow louder as the black matter began climbing up the door from the tiny sloth.
Give it to me.
The book. My hands only gripped it tighter at the order. I had to keep it safe, even if it meant loosing my life over it.
I turned my back to the smoke and rushed to the bookcase. My hand reached for the angled lamp to a side and I pulled it down, in unison, the book shelf parted ways in half and exposed a secret entrance with a tunnel leading down a spiral staircase. Not even daring to glance behind my back, I rushed inside the tunnel and down the staircase, hearing the bookshelf closing behind me.
