"Great job, Lainey! Why don't you walk him around a bit to cool him down?"
"Thanks, I was really happy with the bending line since we seldom jump 3'6. I'd really love to work more on the higher stuff in our lessons this week, if I can I'm going to show in the higher divisions this year. I know I have my whole life with this special dude to move up the levels, but I really feel like we're ready this year!"
Tracy, my trainer, laughed a bit, then nodded. "I love teaching you because you're always so motivated! We can work up to that, but 3'3 suits both of you at the moment. I'd say by spring you'll be ready to move up."
I heard the muffled sound of horseshoes on the arena sand and glanced back, seeing the familiar sight of Amanda and Candy in their matching jumpers gear. Candy was notorious for being very wild, but she could definitely jump, hence why she was allowed to stay at our farm. Amanda was the only one who could handle the crazy rescue, though many of the riders at Full Rein Farm tried very hard to stay on, because those who could stay on won the jumper round.
"Alrighty, well I'll see you Tuesday for my lesson, correct?"
Tracy nodded. "Yeah, see you then, Lainey!"
I took my feet out of the irons and swung off of Ashes, my 17hh Warmblood Gelding. While I only leased him, we had an unbreakable bond, and similar to Candy and Amanda, I was the only one who had clicked with him. The sleek ebony equine raised his broad cranium, ears forward and muzzle searching my pocket for treats. I giggled quietly to myself and pulled a treat out of the pocket of my inner-jacket, shivering a bit in the freezing February weather. "Haha, gotcha," I said as a look of confusion crossed his face. He wasn't phased for a moment though, he eagerly gobbled the treat up and followed me back to the grooming stall. I soon had him untacked, brushed down, and blanketed, and just as I shut him into his field, I saw the familiar black truck my father owned going down the driveway.
As I got into the car, a grim expression of worry crossed his face. "Sweetie, we need to have a chat."
