Rio keeps her word and returns to Reagan and Agatha two days later.Reagan's sleeping still and Agatha sits watching her, softly running her finger over her eyebrows and down her nose, it's the only thing that gets her to sleep, that keeps her asleep.
Reagan hasn't slept since Rio left, not much anyway, she gets nightmares now and although it's only been two days the toll it takes on her is obvious, so Rio stays quiet as she enters the cottage, watching her lovers as her heart aches as she prepares to separate them.
"Do you have to take her," Agatha asks quietly her movements never stilling, her eyes never leaving Reagan's peaceful face. It's the first time she has seen her so peaceful since Rio saved her.
Rio's heart pounded in her chest as she watched Agatha's gentle ministrations. It was a heartbreaking scene, one she wished she could freeze in time. Yet, she knew she had to break the tranquillity to shatter the fragile peace.
"I'm afraid so, my love," she repeated, her voice barely a whisper. The words felt heavy on her tongue, each syllable a dagger to her soul. "I must take her."
Agatha's eyes flickered up, her gaze locking onto Rio's. A silent plea passed between them, a desperate hope that this was all a terrible nightmare. But the reality was harsh and unforgiving.
"Please," Agatha begged, her voice barely audible. "Just a little longer. Please."
Rio's heart ached for her lover. She wanted to grant her wish, to hold onto this moment forever. But she couldn't. The time had come.
"I promise I'll bring her back, We'll both come back" she said softly, her voice barely a whisper. "I'll make sure she's safe."
With a heavy sigh, Rio approached Reagan's bedside. She gently traced the lines of her face, memorising every curve, every imperfection.
Agatha's eyes, filled with a mix of sadness and understanding, met Rio's. "I know you will," she replied, her voice barely louder than Rio's. "But it still hurts."
Rio nodded, her own eyes welling up with tears. "I know, my love. It hurts me too."
She turned her gaze back to Reagan; her sleeping forms a stark contrast to the chaos swirling within Rio's mind. She knew she had to be strong for both of them.
"For how long?" Agatha's voice was barely audible, a stark contrast to the usual strength she exuded.
"For how long, will we be apart this time" Agatha fears the answer, but she fears not knowing more.
Rio hesitated, her gaze fixed on Reagan's serene face. "I don't know, longer than I have ever been" she finally admitted, her voice trembling. "I...I can't control this part"
A sob escaped Agatha's lips, her hand stilling on Reagan's face. "No," she whispered, her voice filled with despair. "Please, don't take her."
Rio's heart shattered into a million pieces. She wanted to comfort Agatha, to hold her and assure her that everything would be alright. But she knew that was a lie. There was no comfort, no solace, only the cold, harsh reality of their separation.
"I'm so sorry, my love," Rio whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I...I promise we will be back; she'll be back"
Agatha's eyes, once filled with love and hope, were now clouded with sorrow. She turned her gaze back to Reagan, her expression a mix of longing and despair.
Rio knew she had to act quickly. She couldn't let this moment drag on, prolonging the inevitable pain. With a heavy heart, she moved towards Reagan, gently picking her up.
Agatha watched helplessly as Rio carried Reagan away, her heart aching with every step they took. As the door closed behind them, silence enveloped the cottage, Reagan hated the quiet.
