"We're being watched."
Wanda and Roman stop in their tracks. They walk through what was once time square in New York City. She could have sworn she "took care of" all of the potential threats around them. But she feels a presence. Wanda grabs Roman's arm and pulls him closer to her.
"Show yourself!" She says, red magic forming in her palm not holding Roman.
A loud boom can be heard coming from the sky.
"What was that?" Roman says.
Wanda is silent, looking around.
Suddenly a massive crater appears in the concrete.
Wanda and Roman jump back.
A figure wearing black robes stands up, glowing blue magic swirling in his hands.
He throws out his arm and Roman is sent flying back against a chunk of rubble- he falls to the ground, gasping for breath. Watching Roman fall sends Wanda's protective instinct into full gear.
She swiftly moves in front of him, shielding him with her body.
"Whoever you are, leave this place or face the consequences!"
The figure disappears into thin air. Wanda scans the area looking for the mysterious attacker.
Roman coughs. Wanda whips around, her eyes wide, and crouches down in a flash.
She gently touches the side of Roman's face.
"Hey, hey talk to me, are you alright?" Her eyes dart over his body, assessing for injuries.
"Oh my god, your head..." she touches her fingers to a gash across his forehead
Roman blinks, his eyes re focusing.
"B-behind you!" He croaks.
"What?" Wanda turns around in time to see the figure heading straight for her at top speed, glowing blue blades in each hand.
Before he can get any closer than 20 feet from Wanda two razor sharp objects burst from the cement, impaling the offender through either side of his body, stopping him in his tracks.
Wanda is stunned as she looks at the figure suspended in the air, hanging limply from the spikes in his sides.
Taking a closer look at the objects she sees that they're...wood? They're tree roots. Bursting up from the soil underneath the layers of concrete and cement. When the surprise subsides Wanda remembers Roman's hurt.
She swivels her head back to him- his arm is outstretched the veins in his hands and arms a light shade of green. It dawns on Wanda that Roman just saved her life. Her eyes zero in on the blood running down his face.
"You're bleeding- Roman, are you okay? Speak to me."
Panic courses through her body at the sight.
"Roman speak to me are you okay?" She practically yells.
"Yeah, yeah I'm okay..."
Wanda lets out a sigh of relief.
"You're going to need stitches for this...." She wipes some of the blood away from his eye with her hand. She rests her hand on his cheek. She's starting to regret bringing him on her mission. She let him get hurt. And he could have gotten hurt much worse than he did.
Roman brings his hand up to his head. He gingerly touches the gash with his fingertips, looking at the blood. Slowly the cut starts to close up on its own. The edges coming together with a green light.
Soon the wound is completely healed with a light pink scar where it once was.
"Was that you?" Wanda asks, absolutely astonished.
"I- I guess so. I've never done that before."
(If you did not know plants regenerate their cells much faster than humans, they can actually heal themselves when damaged)
Wanda is blown away by this sudden new power of Roman's. He can heal himself. But this feeling is quickly followed by a feeling of guilt.
"I shouldn't have brought you along with me."
"What? Why?"
"You got hurt. And you're lucky it was only a scrape."
"Yeah but I can heal myself- see, I'm okay." He gestures to his head.
"Yes, but imagine how much worse could have happened! A head injury is nothing to be taken lightly."
"Yeah but look- this mission has been the highlight of my life. And meeting you has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. I don't know what I would've done if you didn't take me along with you."
Wanda is quiet. After a moment she looks up at the scar on his forehead and gently touches it.
"You are just full of surprises aren't you?"
Roman smiles
"Yeah, I guess so."
She returns his smile and stands up, a bit of amused affection in her eyes.
"You've definitely kept me on my toes these past few days, you know that?" She puts out her hand to help him up.
"Is that a good or a bad thing?" He takes her hand.
"Hm. A little bit of both I suppose."
