“What do you mean we’re moving?”
My stepmother sighed “I told you last night and I’ll you again for the eleven millionth time,” She’s so dramatic. I hate her so much. “You are moving into the dorm room that your father paid for at the beginning of the school year and your father and I are going to Europe.” She pulled another armful of clothes out of my closet and dropped them on the bed next to me. She flipped her long blond hair out of her face and sighed again.
“Do you need me to get the bike pump?” She glared at me, “Cause, you know, you’re leaking-”
“David! Could you come in here please?” She really brought Dad into this?
“Coming Andi.” We could hear his footsteps on the stairs.
She smirked at me. One of those, “Watch this, you little snot” smirks. Ooh, so scary... Her lip starts quivering and her eyes glitter with unshed tears. She better freaking not.
“What’s wrong, ladies?”
“Dave, she’s hurting my feelings again!” She sniffled.
Angry, I stood up, “What the hell are you talking about? I wouldn’t need to if you didn’t treat me like I was a five year old.”
Dad cringed, “Nikky, don’t use that kind of language here. Andi, What did she say?”
She pushes herself into his shoulder so he’d be forced to hug her. “She told me I was a stupid airhead that didn’t know anything!”
What?! This broad is crazy. “Dad, tell me you don’t believe the crap she’s spewing?”
“I, uh, well,” He looked from me to my step mother and back at me. “Andromeda, may I have a word with my daughter?”
“Of course.” The witch detached herself from my father and crossed her arms over her huge, fake chest.
“Alone, my dear.” Dad put his hand on her lower back and gently pushed her out of my room.
“Thank you, David. I know you’ll talk some sense into her.” As Dad shut my door, I saw Andi stick her tongue out at me.
“Nikky, we’ve talked about this. Andromeda and I are happy, but we don’t have any alone time with you here.”
Ugh, really Dad? You play the “Alone time” card? Gross. “Dad, I can’t believe you’re taking her side in this.”
“Nikky, listen to-”
“No Dad, you listen,” I was sick and tired of Andi pushing me and Dad around, “I hate her. She’s always lying to you. Always. I can’t believe you don’t believe me.” I crossed my arms and flopped down on my bed.
“Veronica, I don’t want to hear another word against Andi. Your stepmother is so nice to you. She takes you shopping and buys you nice things and then you go and insult her like this? Maybe you need to get out of the house tonight. Clear the tensions and whatnot.”
Shocked at the turn of events, I sat up and glared at him. “Andi put you up to this, didn’t she?” When he didn’t respond, I yelled, “She did! Good Lord. Dad, you’re such a pushover! And Andi is no better. You can’t spell Andromeda without Drama. I can’t stand the way she treats us. Why can’t you see how awful she is? I didn’t want any of those things she bought me, I was perfectly content with the wardrobe that I had! She threw all my old stuff out to make room for her stuff when she moved in with us. She-”
“Veronica Rose, you will shut your mouth right now!” Dad cut me off mid-dramatic monologue. “You will spend the rest of the night in your room packing your things. When you’re finished, you will write apology letters to both me and Andi. Dinner will be brought to you. You are grounded for two months. I’m changing the wifi password, so no internet,” He roughly opened my door and glared at me “Pushover, am I? You’re out of here tomorrow. I was going to give you another week, but now...” And with that, he slammed my door, causing my room to shake.
I flopped back onto my bed and pulled my pillow over my face to scream. I am so not writing those letters.
