"Titi....why one dinosaur brown and that one yellow?" the little voice beside her piped up, breaking Dime out of her thoughts.

"Huh?" she muttered, glancing down at her nephew. Kaden looked up at her with wide, curious eyes, his tiny hand pointing at the book in her lap.

"The dinos...why this one brown and that one yellow?" he repeated, his eyebrows furrowed.

"Because..." she trailed off, trying to come up with a good answer. "I guess that's how God made them, and we don't question how God does things.

Kaden gave her a skeptical look, clearly not convinced by her explanation. "But why they not same color? They brothers"

Dime bit back a smile, shaking her head. "You ask a lot of questions, you know that? Come on, let's go get your backpack, your mommy said she gonna be here soon."

"I dont wan go with her" Kaden threw the book down, his eyes starting to water.

Dime sighed, reaching out and taking his hand. "It's just for a little bit. And if you're good, I'll buy you a new dinosaur toy, okay?"

Kaden sniffled, wiping his nose with the back of his hand. "Promise?"

"Promise."

He gave a small nod, following her into the kitchen. The sound of the doorbell cut through the quiet, and Dime let out a frustrated sigh.

"That's probably your mommy, can you go get your stuff?"

Kaden nodded, rushing off towards his room. Dime took a deep breath, bracing herself for Shelise's arrival.

She pushed open the front door, her jaw clenched, the tension visible on her face. "Hey, you good? Kaden ready to go?"

"Yeah, he just need a few minutes," Dime replied, her voice tight. "How's everything? I didn't see you at all last week."

Shelise waved a dismissive hand, a look of annoyance on her face. "Yeah, I've been busy. You know how it is. But thanks for watching him."

Dime gave a noncommittal shrug, trying to ignore the knot of frustration building in her stomach. This had to be the tenth time Shelise just dropped Kaden off and disappeared for a week.

"How is everything else?" she pressed, trying to keep her tone casual. "How's the new job going?"

Shelise sighed, a look of irritation flashing across her face. "It's fine, just a lot going on right now."

"Mmm, well if you ever need anything..."

Shelise nodded, her eyes scanning the living room. "Kaden hurry ya ass up"

Just then, the little boy came running out of Dime's room, his backpack slung over his shoulder.

"There ya ass go, come on," Shelise said, taking his hand.
