Eva's POV

Today, marks 2 weeks since Mr. Lane resumed. Everything returned to normal the day after Mr. Thane ran out. He probably went to cheer up his friend.

He came back like he hadn't gone AWOL for almost a week, he assigned a project to our group and we've
been busy with that ever since. It seemed like he just gave us this small project to keep us occupied because it was just like a planner, but no matter what as programmers who like our job we'll take our job seriously.

Everything had been going smoothly, the app concept had been created, the designs were already being handled by the art department, and we had just gone through our first testing, and there was a bug. Like seriously, come on.

As the group leader I had to tell Mr. Lane and I was scared. But I picked myself up and dragged myself to his office.

After knocking on the door three times, like it had been specified to us many times I got nervous. I hadn't heard a come in, so should I go in or wait? Deciding to pick the scarier choice I gather my courage. I am praying to God that he isn't there, so I can quickly drop my report and make an escape.

Thankfully he isn't, I breathe a sigh of relief and walk towards his desk and place the file. As I'm about to leave I suddenly hear running water? How? It's coming from his private restroom? There wasn't any water on before and I don't think Mr. Lane is the one because I didn't hear the toilet flush.

I stalk towards the restroom with caution and open the door just a little bit and then I see Mr. Lane splashing water on his face. His eyes are puffy and reddish. Immediately I don't want to be in the room anymore and start walking away but for some reason my feet think it would be great if I tripped on air and I fall to the floor with a loud thump.

"Ugh." I groan. I am definitely going to be in pain now and all I can hope is that Mr. Lane didn't hear me. But I think everything us against me because the tap goes off and then Mr. Lane asks, "Is anybody there?"

Afraid to lose my job for entering without permission, I try to crawl out of the room, keyword try. I immediately hear footsteps and I just know it's over. I try scrambling to my feet but it's too late.

The door goes wide open, "What the heck?" Mr. Lane says.

I quickly try standing up but almost fall down. After successfully getting to my feet I turn in slow motion to face my boss and saying he looks perplexed isn't enough.

"Before you jump to any conclusions, I can explain." I say trying to salvage the situation.

In menacingly calm voice, he says "Then explain before I jump to any conclusions."

And I waste no time I'm doing so, in one breath, I say "I came to give you my report on the app group 2 of the software development department progress but I didn't see you but then I heard water running and was confused so I decided to check, then I saw you washing your face and your eyes were red so I assumed wouldn't want an employee seeing you like that so then I was going away but fell and was to slow in responding and then we came to this."

Then I exhale. Mr. Lane looks deep in thought before he looks up with wide eyes an says, "My eyes were red and you don't wonder why?"

Oh no. Had I just put my self in done trouble? Yes. Was it going to be awkward explaining to my boss that I witnessed he pitiable state after his break up? Yes. Did I have a fleeting thought of running away? Yes. Am I going to? No, because he is my boss and pays my salary and could fire me.

I sigh I guess I'm going to have to lie my way our of this, "I know most people have problems they don't want to talk about and I also know most people don't like appearing weak in front of others. Am I curious as to why or what would make my great boss cry?" More like the devil, "Yes I am, but I won't ask unless you offer to tell me." Then I flash a look of understanding in my eye to sell the act and Mr. Lane expression morphs to one of respect.

He just nods and I know that's my signal to leave. Once I leave the office I fist bump the air, I could have been an actor if not a programmer, look at the way I improvised on the spot. Aren't I so impressive? Then I flip my hair and walk triumphantly back to my colleagues.

I suppose this chapter is a filler. I wanted a chapter to be in between the drama that's going to happen in chapter 6 and what happened in chapter 4.
