"What brings you here?" Benazir asked.

For the last fifteen minutes we, more like Benazir and Zainab, have been talking. I have signed and still, her copy of the book is laying in front of me. I sighed as the reins over myself were slipping away.

"Good books, good work, and celebration of love." Zainab said, after taking a sip of her drink.

"And heartbreak." I added as I stilled my eyes on the copies of my book that were stacked on one table. People were picking one after another and made their way slowly through the crowd to the counter.

"He and his dard (pain). I swear I married a Devdas." Benazir scoffed.

Zainab chuckled lightly, triggering a distant memory. A memory of the sun, campus lawn, and us. Shaking my head, I shrugged my shoulders.

"He wasn't like this though. He had more romantic bones than any other." Zainab said as she cast a flickering gaze towards me.

"He is, but his words are so cruel," Benazir said. She was right, I did write romantic words, but I was cruel with the tragedy. Of separation, betrayal, and broken promises. I wrote those as raw as they would feel to someone. As raw as they felt to me.

"And you, Zainab. You are like an eclipse. One moment it's all sunlight, roses, and love, and then comes slowly the raw suppressed feelings of heartache. Kaise karleti hein aap?" (How, do you just do it?)See I told you Benazir and curious are synonymous.

Laughing softly, Zainab shook her head before replying, "Those who write are often in a tension. A fine tension that shifts between revealing it all or guarding the heart."

"Where is Sohail?" I asked her to cut the merriment around us. If there is anything in this world, merriment didn't last for us.

"Sohail is just... around." Zainab spoke with a pause. There was something under those words that she spoke. The Zainab from campus wasn't this enigmatic. She was as clear as the morning sky with her expressions and words. Right now, everything has changed. I guess that's the tricky part about time, it changes things and people.
