Awakening in a New World

Aiko Takahashi is an ordinary girl in the real world with a deep love for manga. Her favorite series is Sword of Honor, a popular shonen manga with a complex, heroic protagonist named Ren and a ruthless villain known as Lady Kuro. Aiko has spent countless hours reading about Ren’s journey, the battles, and the relationships, wishing she could somehow experience that world. However, she is no fighter and has always related more to the side characters than the villains.

One night, while reading the latest chapter, Aiko suddenly feels drowsy and collapses on her bed. When she wakes up, she’s lying on the cold, hard ground. Confused and scared, she realizes she’s no longer in her room. Her clothes are different, too—she’s wearing a long, dark robe, fitted with silver embroidery. Aiko finds herself in a forest clearing, surrounded by ancient trees, their branches tangled like dark claws in the sky.

Slowly, the horrifying realization hits her: she’s inside the Sword of Honor manga. But she’s not just any character; she’s Lady Kuro, the infamous villain known for her power and cruelty. Aiko remembers all too well the evil deeds her character will commit, and the brutal fate that awaits Lady Kuro at the hero Ren’s hands.

As Aiko struggles to make sense of this, she realizes that she’s not just in Lady Kuro’s body—she has her powers, too. With a flick of her wrist, she can summon dark shadows that bend to her will, twisting and coiling like smoke. The sensation is intoxicating, yet frightening. Though Lady Kuro is a fearsome villain, Aiko doesn’t want to hurt anyone, and she fears what will happen if she loses control of these dark powers.

A noise nearby startles her. A group of villagers stumbles upon her and recoils in fear. They recognize her as Lady Kuro and run, spreading the word that she has returned. Aiko feels a pit in her stomach as she realizes she can’t simply explain herself to them. In their eyes, she’s a villain.
