As the light of a new day filters through the window, Mayve's eyes open slowly to greet it. To shield her vision from its bright rays, she turns her head. Her eyes fan over Sevika's sleeping form, noticing her relaxed expression and peaceful demeanor.
Knowing this moment won't last forever, Mayve beholds Sevika's resilient beauty. All the way from her loose strands of dark hair to her broad shoulders peeking from underneath the covers. Various scars all from battles long since passed add to this illustrative vision. Gray eyes hidden behind closed lids provide some barrier to permit Mayve to study Sevika's restful face. To some higher power, she wishes to stare for as long as humanly possible.
This brief moment of admiration ends as soon as Sevika's eyes leisurely open. They take in Mayve's form, the sunlight shining behind her in a soft halo. As undeserving as Sevika believes herself to be, Mayve's presence is a divine gift. Gratefulness floods her heart, thankful to have been destined to share this life with her closest friend.
Without uttering a word, the women rise from the comforts of bed. Every now and then stolen glances are shared between them as they get ready to start their days. Feelings aside, they're more than ready to put their plan in action.
"Find Ran first. They'll help flush the rat out. Once you've done your part, meet me in the alley by the old glass factory." Sevika hugs Mayve tightly before she leaves. "Wear something inconspicuous. See you later, May."
Now left to her own devices, Mayve brainstorms a plan. She hasn't been in this part of the Undercity for a long time. Her relationships with some of these people have become strained or don't even exist anymore. Not many trust her.
A memory pops into Mayve's thoughts. She recalls that moment when Ran opened up to her and broke one of their many walls in attempt to provide Mayve with a space to talk about what she went through. Mayve can use this opportunity to push Sevika's plan to fruition.
If Mayve can find Ran and somehow convince them to aid in this situation, Mayve could be successful on two fronts. Personal and professional.
The main room of the bar is still. Quiet. Providing Mayve with space to think. One of the main reasons for her return was to get in close with Silco, thereby discovering what happened to her daughters. If she can find a way to stop the production of shimmer, that's an added bonus.
In the meantime, it's her goal to gather as many supporters as she can and bring the Lanes back to what it used to be before Silco riddled his people with a drug capable of corrupting them in every way that matters.
In doing this, create a new order. One where the Zaunites can thrive out from under the thumbs of Silco and other gang leaders. Where they can prosper and live without fear of extinction. Whether that be by Silco's hand or that of Piltover.
Even as she becomes more involved with Silco, Sevika, and every other person under his command, Mayve must stay focused on her overarching goals. However long it takes for her to achieve them. Already, her personal feelings are getting in the way—clouding her judgement.
Did she forget that night at the cannery? How he sent the monstrosity that was Deckard after her brother, killing Benzo in the process? How Silco—with Sevika standing firmly behind him—allowed Violet to be attacked by a grown man four times her size? Then he stabbed Vander, not caring as he plummeted from the metal bridge, becoming infused with so much shimmer that it turned him into a rage-filled beast? Mayve doesn't understand how she let her old feelings for Silco void her judgement.
That day, Silco had every intention of killing Vander. Of killing Mylo, Claggor, and Violet as they hurriedly did everything in their power to help Mayve and her brother escape. Her family. She remembers the pole sticking from Mylo's chest and the large pieces of rubble that crushed both boys to death. Such gruesome endings for children who didn't deserve it. Where is Silco's remorse? Did he even care? He would've killed Mayve, too. Even after Vander had jumped from the building, allowing his malformed body to take the brunt of the fall.
