The air on the shore was heavy with salt and possibility. Giorno felt the quiet pull of the ocean lapping at his feet, but his gaze was fixed on Seraphina. She was luminous under the rising sun, her scales catching the light in shimmers of blue and green as if the sea itself had woven her from its essence.
But there was something in her eyes, a glint of determination tempered with something wild and untamable.
"Come with me," she had said, her voice low and earnest, drawing him away from the rocks to a secluded tide pool, where the world felt suspended between land and sea.
"Seraphina," he began, curiosity and caution mingling in his voice, "you... you can't just come to my world like this. You breathe the ocean, live in the water. That's not something you can leave behind easily."
She gave him a small, thoughtful smile, one that seemed ancient despite her youthful face. "It's true. The sea is my home." She looked out over the expanse of water, the waves swelling and breaking against the shore as if echoing her thoughts. "But... I'm not bound here. Not if I don't choose to be."
Giorno tilted his head, studying her. "And how do you plan to do that?"
Her smile widened, a touch of mischief flickering in her eyes. "I know someone. Someone powerful." Her voice dropped to a whisper, as if the very mention of the name might summon the being in question. "The Sea Witch."
"The Sea Witch?" Giorno echoed, brows furrowing as he processed this. "You'd go to... a witch? Just to see my world?" He looked at her, searching her face for signs of hesitation. "Seraphina, we only just met. You don't need to go that far just to... please me."
"It isn't about pleasing you," she said firmly, her gaze meeting his, unwavering. "I am... curious. I want to understand. And I believe that our meeting was no accident. The ocean brought you to me, and I feel as though... as though this might be my chance."
Her voice softened as she continued, her gaze drifting toward the waves. "And as for the deal-don't worry. I'll make sure I get the best of it."
He studied her expression, his heart caught between admiration and concern. "Seraphina," he said softly, his tone imploring. "Magic like this... it's not a game. You don't know what she'll ask of you."
She nodded. "I know that," she replied, her voice unwavering. "But I've grown up here, Giorno. The Sea Witch's magic is powerful, but I'm not afraid. I know how to navigate these waters." A small smile touched her lips. "I'll make it back to you, and I'll have legs when I do."
The thought made Giorno's stomach turn, but he couldn't deny her. He could see her determination as clearly as the sea glistening in her hair. This was her choice-her life. All he could do was support her.
"And if she demands something terrible from you?" he asked, voice barely more than a whisper. "What will you do?"
She shrugged lightly. "I'll bargain with her. That's how it works. She's a witch, but she's also fair-when it serves her." She gave him a smirk that was more challenging than playful. "I've spent my life in these waters, Giorno. I know how to strike a deal."
The conviction in her words left him both impressed and deeply unsettled. "But what if... what if it goes wrong? What if she takes more than you're willing to give?"
Seraphina sighed, studying his face with a look of almost fond exasperation. "Giorno... I have dreamed of visiting the human world. To walk on land, to see things from your perspective. This is something I want, something I've longed for. And besides," her eyes softened, "you asked, didn't you? If I'd ever leave the sea."
He felt himself flinch. "I didn't mean for you to take such a risk."
"Maybe you didn't," she admitted, stepping closer. "But that doesn't mean I won't. I will make sure it's a fair deal. And once I return," she paused, her tone more serious than before, "will you... will you take care of me?"
