Chapter three

September 2nd ,1995

Evy woke up the next morning in a haze. She took a moment to comprehend her location. It was September second... She was at Hogwarts... She was... Late!

Evy leapt out of bed, scrambling for her clothes and speeding off to the bathroom to change. She brushed her teeth and hair at the same time then rushed to pull on her shoes and raced to the Great Hall for breakfast before it ended.

On the way down, she ran headlong into the last person she wanted to see while looking like a half-cleaned mess; Blaise fucking Zabini.

"Watch where you're going, Rodgers," he scoffed, releasing his grip on her upper arm, where his hand ended up when she bumped into him.

"Sorry," she muttered, staring at the ground, not in the mood to get into a fight.

"Look at me when you speak to me. And don't mumble nonsense." He spat, grabbing her jaw roughly and forcing her to look up at him.

Her ocean eyes met his chocolate ones. He had no emotion in them.

"Let go of me," she forced his hand off her jaw. "I will do what I please. Now, I would like to get to breakfast so... get out of my way, Zabini."

He stood there for a second more before sliding to the side ever so slightly, so Evy had to push past him. She hurried off to the Great Hall to grab a quick piece of toast before going outside to find Katie sitting under a large oak tree by the Black Lake, reading what looked suspiciously like a smut novel to Evy. With a rushing heart, Evy walked up to the brown-eyed girl and snatched the book out of her hands.

"Hey! Give that back!" Katie shouted.

"Just let me see!" Evy demanded while looking at the cover of the book. Twisted Hate. Evy knew that was a smut book. Why would anyone want to read that? That was gross.

"Give me that!" Katie stood up and took her book back, swiftly trying to hide the cover from her, but in vain, for Evy had already seen what the other girls' reading material was.

"What the hell, Katie! That's a smut novel," Evy was astounded.

"I know, I like it. Besides it's not your book. Why do you have a problem with what I read?"

"I know it's not my book, but why would you want to read about that kind of stuff? That's gross."

"It's not gross to me," Katie finished. "But in any case, what's up?"

"Nothing just came out here to meet you. I thought Hannah and Ernie would be here too," Evy responded.

"Yeah, but Hannah's chasing after Neville and Ernie went with her for 'moral support' whatever that's supposed to mean."

"Ugh! Hannah's gonna be off chasing boys for the next two years!" Evy hated it when Hannah started to fall for random guys. It meant that she normally abandoned the friend group.

"I know, it's like she doesn't have a life outside of boys. Honestly, it's like we matter up until she found a new guy to chase about, then we just fade into the background."

Just as Evy was about to say something else, Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott strutted over to the two girls sitting under the tree.

"Oh, c'mon, Blaise, this place is occupied by filth. Wouldn't want to get out robes dirty, now, would we?" The two Slytherin boys laughed cruelly, sending shivers down Evy's spine.

Oddly, Evy felt her face heat up. Did they really think she was filth? Even if she was a muggle-born, surely, they think her that low? But then again, these were the most prejudges boys in the school that she was talking about.
