"we were supposed to be just friends," glitch by taylor swift

"STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!" I bang my notebook on my head. My pen is poised above my blank paper that needs to be filled with songs. I have to pick five songs to perform from my debut album. I'm doing seventeen songs, which is nothing compared to Taylor Swift, but plenty for me.

I'm also going to do covers of five songs that I need to pick out. So far I have three: BIRDS OF A FEATHER, I love you, i'm sorry, and cardigan. I want to pick a Olivia song and Sabrina but I can't decide.

After staring at this paper for over thirty minutes I have listed:

all-american bitch
illicit affairs
logical
the archer
august
the great war
dorothea
the lakes
better than revenge
brutal
traitor
you're on your own, kid
fifteen
never grow up

I still need two more songs from my first album and then two more covers. Instead of thinking alone, I grab my phone and scroll through my contacts.

"Hello?"

I smile when she answers. "Emm!"

"Gwenny!" Emma cheers. "You have a ton of explaining to do."

I laugh. "I know, I know. And i'll tell you it later but I have a question."

"What's up."

"I need you to tell me an Olivia Rodrigo song and Sabrina Carpenter song I should perform in tour." I naw on the pen in my hand.

"Omg! I get to pick?"

"Yeah, you do." I lick my lips. "I'm already doing birds of a feather by Billie, I love you, I'm sorry by Gracie, and cardigan by taylor."

"Oooh, I love those."

"Yeah."

"Okay, what if you did something like taylor?"

"Huh? What do you mean?" I ask.

"Like you switch what cover you sing for songs."

"That's smart, Em! I'll have to talk to my producer but thanks!"

"Of course, love you."

"Love you, bye."

I whip out my computer to send a quick email to my producer before rolling off my bed. I cross the room to grab my guitar. Once back on my bed, I change the pitch and strum the tune to "the lakes". I slowly start to mutter the lyrics, rehearsing them in my head.

My phone pings just as I get lost in the song. I sigh and check my messages.

wonderboy

hey

I jump from excitement.

my doors unlocked

Once I see that he's read my message, I scramble out of bed to tidy my room. Dirty clothes, makeup, and food litter my floor. I shove it in drawers and trash cans before taking a trip to the bathroom.

I make sure my makeup is good and my hair isn't crazy. I spray my perfume and add more deodorant before returning to my bed. I sit perched on the end while I wait for a knock on the door.

It comes sooner than expected.

"Hey, Walker," I breathe.

"Hey, Star." Walker steps inside and follows me to my bed. He sits at the end while I pick back up where I left off. "What are you singing now?"

"The lakes. And then I need to sing six more songs," I say, looking up. "After we can watch a movie, kay?"

Walker smiles and nods, his eyes never leaving mine. My cheeks burn a little from embarrassment of someone watching me sing.

I stroke the strings and start to get into rhythm.

"Is it romantic how all my elegies eulogize me?" I grimace as I sing off key. I glance up. "Sorry, I'm not used to people watching me."

"It's okay," Walker whispers. "You got it, Gwen."

I take a deep breath and start again, singing the correct pitch this time.

Walker studies my face the whole time I'm singing. Not once does he look bored or annoyed. He looks interested and in awe at my abilities. When I finish singing the last song, a grin runs through his face.

"Wow," he says. "You're incredible."

I blush. "Thanks."

He climbs closer to me so he's next to me. "You're crazy talented, Gwen."

"So are you, Wonderboy."

I turn on the t.v. and click through the channels until Tangled is playing. I'm well aware of the body next to me.

I'm aware when his pinky brushes mine and stays there. I'm aware when his hand grasps mine and I let him. I'm aware when I sink my head onto his chest.

I giggle when Rapunzel smacks Flynn with her frying pan.

"You remind me of her," Walker mutters.

"Really?" I ask.

"Mhm." He nods. "Same attitude and fight."

"I've always thought i was similar to Belle," I admit.

Walker ponders this thought before slowly nodding. "Alright, you look and have the same qualities as Belle, but the same attitude as Rapunzel."

"I'm good with that," I murmur.

"And who am I like?" Walker asks. "Which love interest?"

"Isn't it obvious?" I joke. "Hercules."

Walker grins before lightly smacking my arm. "Come on, give me a good prince."

I giggle. "Okay, okay... You're as sassy as Flynn but act like Prince Naveen."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Is it because of how nonchalant I am?"

I laugh and glance up at him. Walker's eyes flick from my lips to eyes. I copy his movements before slowly leaning in.

Inches away turns to centimeters as the distance between us closes. I pucker my lips as they make contact with his.

The kiss last barely five seconds before we both pull away. I have a warm, giddy feeling in my chest as I snuggle back onto him.
