chapter two
002, annoying the tense boy is very entertainingTHE sound of rapid keyboard typing fills her ears. The phone ringing unusually loud. Isabel reluctantly trails towards the reception desk.
As the woman talks on the phone, she glances around the bland room. Faded grey paint covers the box shaped room. A few old armchairs along the left wall.
One student with slumped shoulders sat at the farthest seat from Isabel.
"Come here, sweetie." The receptionist urges her forward. Isabel pauses for a moment to take in her appearance. She must be in her twenties. Dyed black hair that runs past her shoulders constrasting to her pale skin.
Neat makeup, including black eyeliner and faint eye shadow. A darling black oufit unable to see from where she's sat. Despite her edgy appearance, she instantly flashes a smile.
"How can I help you, dear?" She questions, her fingers hovering over the keyboard.
"I'm new and was wondering if you could print my timetable and give me my dorm key?" She requests politely.
The woman nods promptly. "Of course." She rolls her chair over to the printer after a few moments of typing.
Isabel flinches when a tall, brown haired boy storms out of the principal's office, slamming the door.
The receptionist returns moments later with a printed two week timetable and a silver key, 18B carved into the metal.
"Here you go, dear, I hope you know where the dorm block is." She checks, quirking an eyebrow. Isabel lets out a nervous chuckle.
"I only got here this morning-" She begins awkwardly.
"No worries, Alexander!" She beckons the boy from earlier forward from where he was standing behind her from where he was standing behind her, clearly waiting for the receptionist.
He looks up from the spot on the floor he was intensely staring at. Isabel spins round to take in his appearance.
He has brown hair that falls on his head perfectly. So soft, she could just run her hand through it for hours. Heat creeps up her cheeks at the thought.
His piercing brown eyes gaze immediately connects with hers. Her eyes trailing down his body, observing his outfit. Clad in black jeans and a white button up. A few shiny bracelets on his wrists. A snake shaped ring on his middle finger.
"Done staring?" His breathy voice draws her attention away from his looks. "I wasn't staring." She retorts, scoffing.
He quirks an eyebrow with a taunting smirk on his face.
"You sure? It seemed like you were. You're pink cheeks are making it pretty obvious." He remarks.
"Well I wasn't. I was observing." She states confidently. The receptionist clears her throat awkwardly.
Isabel returns her attention to the woman. "Yes?" She tries to maintain a casual voice even though she is embarrassed.
"Alexander can take you to your dorm and don't bother going to classes today. Get to know the schopl and make some friends." She sends her a warm smile before typing on her computer again.
Isabel awkwardly turns to the mysterious boy. "Come on, let's get this over with." He sighs as he strolls out of the reception.
She reluctantly trails after him. "You're very rude? you know?" The girl comments as she falls into step with him.
He chuckles. "You've really hit a nerve." He sarcastically clutches his chest.
Isabel rolls her eyes. "So what's your name?, sarcy" She asks.
"Alexander Perez. And don't call me Alex. Only my friends call me that." His jaw visibly clenches for a reason unknown to Isabel.
"Wasn't planning on it." She taunts. It's Alex's turn to roll his eyes. "You're a piece of work, you know?" He informs her as if she doesn't already know.
After a moment of painful silence, he speaks up. "Your name?" He curiously wonders.
She scoffs. "And I thought you didn't like me." She mockingly coos. Alex resists the urge to roll his eyes for the second time in five minutes.
"Fine don't tell me then." He begins stubbornly. "Isabel Rodriguiz." The girl flashes a soft smile.
Alex effortlessly pushes open the heavy oal door leading to the driveway that she was dropped off at not even an hour ago.
The biting wind hits her like a brick. She shudders immediately. Gripping the cuff of her leather jacket. "Come on, I don't have time for slow pokes." He calls, making her realise that she stopped to take in the sensation of autumn's cold air.
"I am definitely not slow." She winks after catching up to him. Alex cringes. "How nice of you to share that information." He curtly dismisses her flirty comment.
He stops in front of an equally tall building with rows of windows — most likely one each dorm. The bricks the same grey as the school accompanied by the dark roof tiles.
"Here is the dorms. Can you go by yourself or do I need to hold your hand?" He sarcastically asks as he stuffs his hands into his pockets.
"Well if you're offering-" She teases. "Get out of here Rodriguiz!" He clicks his tongue disappointingly. She grins.
"Ah, last name basis. Good to know. Perez." Alex shakes his head in disbelief. "You're unbelievable." He tells her spitefully.
"Unbelievably pretty." She posses, running a hand through her hair. He lets out a dry chuckle. "I'm going now!" He calls, turning and strolling back the way he came.
Isabel laughs to herself before heading up to her dorm.
There's no going back.
