Hi there!
I wanted take a moment to explain how exactly this short story came to be. In order to do so, I have to talk a little bit about my time in highschool and hope that at almost 21 years old, I can no longer get in trouble for any of this.
Basically, in school, I did a little bit of work doing other people's homework for pay. My parents knew the whole time and did not tattle on me but are still mildly disappointed in me to this day...Eh, what's one more thing?
Where this comes into to play with this story is last winter, when my bestfriend, knowing that I still dabbled in the work occasionally, asked me to write a short story for her creative writing class. She had already turned in the basic notes she had for the story so I got those to work off of.
She gave me her original idea and I ran with it. Even with how short it is, it was a high school class so it was supposed to be a lot shorter. I worked practically nonstop for two days straight and then sent her this 8-9 thousand word adventure I had gone on. She loved it and so did her teacher, she got an A.
Fast forward to this year, I'm desperately trying to make my writing into something people love as much as I do. I know, I'm doing a fantastic job.(Check out those 3 followers!!! Woo!) But, and I know how naive and stupid I sound, ONE person went through both of my finished works and voted on every. single. chapter. That's like over twenty hours of my writing. AND I got my FIRST EVER comment from them?
Seriously, I geeked out. My first book isn't even good. I'm a little embarrassed by it actually, but it shows growth so I keep it up. I was so happy because no one, even in my personal life, has ever put that much attention towards something I care this much about.
But then, I realized that they were about to have nothing else from me to read until I start putting up my next work in January. Low and behold, I post this and they're the first person to read it.
As a side note, my best friend, the one who gave me her idea, recently enlisted in the Marines. I am so incredibly proud of her, however, she and this story had been lingering in my mind as a result of my anxiety concerning her safety. I asked her if I could post it and she agreed immediately.
I've always wanted to do something with it. It doesn't feel right to leave something I've written sitting on the shelf in google docs. But it probably would have stayed there if I didn't feel so blessed and eager to produce more.
So, posting this story is my way of writing a thank you note to that one person who took the time to support me and my goal during this trying time in my life. Thank you so much, I would love to hear more of your thoughts.
One more time, thank you to anyone who took the time to read this or any of my other stories. I seriously cannot express how much it means to me.
-xoxo Caitrin Elizabeth-
