AN: I don't usually put a note up here, but get ready for a bunch of lore drops, okay? The other '??' chapter is connected to this one, so it might be a good idea to go back and read it. Also, we're going to find out a lot more about Skylar. Anyways, I hope you enjoy.

Rigid, he sat. Back straight, cross-legged, and perfectly still. His eyes were half-lidded, appearing as if he fell asleep sitting up or was meditating. However, those two possibilities weren't the case.
Skylar was far from at ease, nearly not relaxed enough to do either of those things.
No, he was waiting.
He was waiting for his turn to be let out of his cage like so many others before him. Some came back. Most didn't.
In some cases, like the successful Iron Golem hybrid, some were recruited to the guard force and/or acted in direct command of the minds that controlled this place.
There weren't many opportunities to prove that he was useful, but Skylar ensured that during those moments he was seen as the perfect little soldier. Perfectly obedient. Smart, but not too smart. Strong, but not too strong that it threatened those above him. He had to be someone reliable enough to let in on their grand schemes.
Still, he had to be a cut above the rest. He had to bring something to the table that the others couldn't.
Skylar had to hope that someone saw potential in him, or else, he'll have to live his remaining days down underground with nothing to live for.
Why even give him a second chance, if it was just going to waste?
It was boring. All the people he was living for were nowhere to be seen.
The sound of multiple pairs of footsteps broke him out of his trance. Then, came the voices:
"Are you sure...?"
"He seems pretty useful..."
"What about Isaiah...?"
"No."
"Why not?"
Some parts he couldn't catch, but his worries about that were quickly resolved. Two familiar figures stopped right in front of his cell. The torch light behind them, giving them an ominous glow.
"This is who we need." The man on the left walked up and crouched down to Skylar's height, the iron bars casting jagged shadows on his face.
That was Horace, Skylar recognized. He's heard the name in passing. The other mob hybrids were terrified of him, the most of them all was his very own son, the infamous Creeper mob hybrid. From what little information Skylar was able to gather, stemming from his own personal experiences and the accounts of other mob hybrids, that this was the man who started it all.
Then, there was the woman on the right: Lillian. She was more well-liked than her counterpart, but Skylar knows her act by now. She was the face of this whole enterprise, but not the one actually running the show in Skylar's personal opinion.
"Him...?" Lillian crossed her arms, staring Skylar down with an uncharacteristic amount of hostility.
Skylar merely blinked. I guess I'm not one of her favorites... not like I'd wanna be in the first place. But... Skylar subtly darts his eyes between the two, weighing his options. I'm not sure if I want to be one his favorites either.
