Jake POV
I'm sitting in a car. I'm in the backseat with two strangers in the front seats. They sound happy, they are laughing and seem to have a good time. Where am I? I lean forward in my seat and look at the person in the passenger seat. It can't... be?
"Mom?" She looked over at me happily and smiled.
"Oh Jake! You woke up from your nap! Heh..." She looked forward again and started playing with her hair. What's going on? How am I here? I look to my left and my dad looks to be happily humming a song.
"Hey son, hand me the map behind the my seat." I looked behind his seat to find a huge map and handed it to him. He looked at it confused and gave it back to me.
"Jake, I'm tired. Think we can pull over and you can drive?" I looked at him confused.
"I can't drive dad." What is he crazy? Trusting me with the car.
"It's fine son, it's easy!" He pulled over and got out. We were on the side of a busy road and he opened my door. He held out his hand to me and I got out so sit in the drivers seat. I looked back at him sitting in the back happily.
"You sure about this?" I didn't want to do drive, I was always scared to mess up.
"You'll be fine. Now, cmon! We'll be late for the movies." I turned back on to the streets again and started heading down the road. I for some reason knew where I was going. It was like he told me but he didn't. I seemed to drive like a pro, everything was going fine. I looked over at my mom and she looked pissed. Did I do something?
"Mom, you okay?" She looked over at me mad.
"Your father forgot it was our anniversary." She looked back at him to only return the look the same.
"If you wouldn't leave the house all the time to go party and get drunk then maybe I would be nice enough to remember."
She made a face.
"Guys, stop ye-" I joined in to only be cut off by my dad screaming my name and pointing at the road. I quickly turned around to see a truck coming at us. I roughly swerved the car not knowing we were in the right lane on a bridge. The car steered off the bridge and the fall seemed so slow. I saw my mother put her hand against the window and her other on the side of her chair. My father was slowly falling forward toward the glass. I can't stop this. Why did I crash the car? Why did I take my eyes off the road?
Then my view changed, I wasn't in the front seat anymore. I was watching the car slowly fall from the outside. Inside the car my father was in the drivers seat with my mother in the passengers. She had a bottle in her hand and there were many more floating in the air inside. Then they finally crashed into the water below.
I woke up.
~~
I jolted up from my bed. I clutched the sheets behind me as I felt my breathing start to go back to its regular pace. I heard something move beside me and a small figure sit up too. They leaned over to the side table and turned on a light. I looked over to see Serah rubbing her eyes. She yawned and looked at me. I stayed looking at her for a bit until I looked at the sheets in front of me. It was just a dream Jake... Just a dream.
"What happened?" Her low voice spoke. I kept looking at the sheets in front of me. She leaned her head forward to look at me. She slouched her eyebrows while looking at me and made a thinking face. She quickly shuffled herself over and sat on my lap to look at me. She tilted her head again and said, "If you sit there staring at the sheets you won't accomplish anything." I looked at her silently. I didn't kill them. I didn't.
She brought both her hands up to my face to lightly squish my cheeks.
"Cmon speak Jake." Her hands were cold, like always. She's cold blooded or something because her feet and hands will always be freezing, even in the summer heat. I grabbed onto both of her hands and held them in mine, trying to warm them up. It hardly ever works but I do it anyway. I started to calm down during this. I didn't kill them. I didn't, I didn't kill them. But they're gone either way. All my dreams about them end like that. They always go. I can never save them. None of my dreams are happy. I never win.
"Can you please tell me what happened Jake?" I finally looked up at her so see her worried. I didn't mean to scare her. I just sorta hoped to only scare myself. I forgot I stayed over at Serah's house. I feel bad.
"It was my mom and dad. The crash... I drove them off the bridge. I-I killed them." Her face changed and she looked sad. I should have lied, I shouldn't have told her. Why do I think of the correct thing to do after I do it. I can be so stupid.
"Hey listen," she removed her hands from under mine and held onto my face again. "It was only a dream. You didn't kill them, okay?" I didn't talk again. I just wanted to be comforted by what she said. I felt her hands try to relax me by rubbing her thumb over my cheeks. I was tired and still confused over my dream.
"It was just a nightmare, okay? It wasn't your fault." She played with my hair trying to relax me. I nodded and stared blankly back at her. She smiled and out her hands down.
"Wanna go back to bed?" She looked happy and had a grin on her face. I nodded and grinned back. Damn, she's so special to me. She crawled off me and turned off the light. I laid back down and she quickly shuffled her way into me making me hug her. She put her face against my chest and sighed. I'm so glad I have her, I think I would have gone insane by now.
