Masquarade Ball

I made myself through the crowded house as all different colors passed by me. The masquerade ball of Shelby's dreams was going well and so far I can't recognize anyone. The only person I knew for certain was Ivy, since I saw her put her mask on. I knew she was wearing a exaggeratedly large ball gown. Knowing her she probably has shorts on and a tank top. I on the other hand looked like my old self. What does my old self look like you ask? Blonde. Particularly strawberry blonde, the first color I ever dyed my hair. I washed out all of the pink from my hair and I almost look unrecognizable. It's been what, 3 years since I was a blonde? I don't think anyone would recognize me. I sent Jason a picture of what I looked like, and I quote him, "I wouldn't fuck you if you were blonde." Classy.
No one knew I was blonde again, the only hint someone got was when Ivy saw what my mask looked like on accident. It was a dark red mask that covered my eyes and nose and had a lot of intricate detailing all through out it. I wore a girly-ish almost cocktail dress that was also dark red. I even tried to make my makeup decent. YouTube never fails for things like that.
Making my way threw all of the crowds of people I kept trying to look for Ivy. I couldn't believe it be this hard to find anyone. I'd thought it be the easiest thing ever but I was so wrong. I thought I saw someone that looked like Jake but they were too tall. Then I found someone that gave it all away, Sophie! Jake has to be near if she's around, especially around the food table.
I quietly made my way over to her and taped on her shoulder and she went stif.
"Uhm... I was eating the food..." She quietly said over the noise and looked down. I laughed and crouched down in my short dress to her level.
"Hey Soph, it's me Serah. Don't tell anyone though." She looked up and her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Serah!" She almost screamed and hugged me. Awe she's so cute.
"Hey you having fun girly? You look adorable." She smiled and quickly nodded and murmured a thanks.
"Hey I got a question, what does your brother look like?" She tilted her head and played with her fingers.
"Jakie told me not to tell you. He said it be fun to find you."
"The thing is Soph, I heard me needed help with something it's going to take me forever to find him in a crowd like this." She looked sympathetic. Exactly what I needed.
"Jakie is wearing a dark blue suit and matching tie thing. He has a dark really really dark blue mask and his hair is brown now. I missed his brown hair, I like it."
Brown hair? Our little Jake is back? Awe adorable heh. I happily nodded at her information and stood up. I grabbed a cupcake from on top of the table and handed it to her. She jumped in excitement as she turned her attention to the cupcake.
I walked around the area where Sophie was located in, looking for my dark blue, brown haired friend. It took me a bit, trying to find someone in the pool of women and men. Then I found him, secretly looking over left and right trying not to look that obvious. Cute. I silently made my way over toward him, trying my best not to look that obvious like him.
"I think I know who you are mister." I stood up straight trying my best not to give anything away so quickly. He tilted his head cocky like and crossed his arms.
"Oh really? Well I have my sneaky suspicions as well." His smirk appeared as well as I slowly started to see my best friend change in front of me. I wonder what happened to him recently, everything about his is just changing so quickly. He extended one hand in my direction and I happily took in response. In a traditional masquerade ball you mostly dance to a waltz, I don't dance but I and the rest of my family needed to learn for the party. Jake was a decent dancer, he picked up things fairly quick so it wouldn't be long that he danced better than me.
Our little dance went on for a bit as we asked each other questions but one of them interested me the most.
"So blonde? What a twist." He said as we continued to slowly dance in circles.
"Ah no one would guess I would be a blonde tonight. You obviously didn't know either." We both laughed as he shook his head.
"I wish I knew earlier, may have done something I regret. Should have known you don't wear teal." I slouched an eyebrow at him. Teal? Why in my right mind would I ever wear teal?
"Who'd you mistake me for if I may ask?" He laughed again and looked down.
"I honestly have no idea now. Probably some random from school."

The dance concluded after a while and I walked beside Jake most of the party. I had a few guesses on who mysteries teal dress girl was but I was more interested in the fact Jake was brunette again. I forgot what he looked like as a brunette, the white hair suited him and now it's like he's a different person. He kept his hands in his pocket the entire time we walked around and from my small height I could look up at him and see his face behind the mask from my point of view. He had a small mask on his face like mine but a dark blue. It tied around his faces, behind his ears but from my view I could just barely see his full face.
"So, you keeping the brown hair Dillon?" I looked up at him and smirked. He shrugged still looking forward and thought for a while.
"I'll probably keep it for a bit, dye it again when I feel like it." I laughed to myself and looked down at the floor.
"Hey.. And what about you miss. Strawberry blonde. The whole dying of hair is natural coming from you but blonde? And the whole dress, dark red and all? Even got red lipstick to go with the act." I quietly put my hand to my mouth, forgot I put lipstick on. I had to look the part right? I looked up and shrugged as well.
"I feel like no one would have guessed blonde. And all of this-" I motioned down toward myself. "It's all my little act to not be found out so easily." Jake tilted his head in agreement. And then looked down at me and smiled.
"Well I must say, you look beautiful tonight Miss.Thunder." He looked back up in front of him and kept walking with his hands in his pocket. Little shit. Jason would kick his ass if he heard him... Ugh. I hate this kid, I could already feel my face getting red. I looked down at the floor and played with my thumbs.
"You know I don't like being complimented." I really didn't. I didn't like being praised for this or that, especially on how I looked. I looked up and he was still looking ahead of him.
"Well that's too bad. Get used to it." I made a noise at his response and scrunched up my nose. I slightly pushed him as I heard him chuckle to himself. God I hate him so much. This is not how a best friend should act. He should just be my little good boy following behind me but he's slowly changing. I don't like it. Why is he changing so much? He's so cocky and smart ass-y now. What am I supposed to do! I'm not used to this! Ugh, he's such an idiot. Stupid Dillon.
