Chapter Five ||

My peers mumbled to each other as I walked down the center aisle of the Great Hall. I got stares, glares, and a mischievous smirk from Draco Malfoy, his plan to get me to love him probably coming together in his head. It made me feel even more awkward when the teachers started whispering too. And the thing that frightened me the most, was the cold, hard stare I got from Dolores Umbridge. It made shivers run down my arms and spine. The glare was cold and frightening, but I could see the fire in her eyes. It seemed like it took forever to get to the teachers' table, which in front of sat the Sorting Hat on a three-legged stool. Professor McGonagall slid the hat off of the stool, allowing me to sit down. I my feet dangled from the floor by a few inches.

McGonagall placed the hat on my head, and it barely covered my eyes. As soon as she let go, the hat rumbled to life on top of my head. It whispered to me. I couldn't understand it, it was barely audible. But I managed to make out, "Smart.....wise....brave.....cunning.....kind......leadership..." I sat there for what seemed like 10 minutes. Once everyone realized that the hat wasn't going to choose, the mumbling and muttering started again. I looked over to Harry. Maybe he would think this was normal. No help from Harry, who was whispering frantically to Ron and Hermione, and once in a while glancing up at me with wide eyes. I twisted my body backward to get reassurance from Dumbledore, but he too was shocked ad worried.

"Alright!" McGonagall shouted. The Hall fell silent. She stepped forward to remove the hat from my head, but the hat finally spoke up. "NO! DON'T" it shouted. "I'm not done!" The hat still was deciding 5 minutes later. Everyone was silent, glancing nervously up to me. They all wondered. 'What house will she be in? Who will be her new friends?' The hat finally made a decision .

"HuffletherinRavendor." it mumbled.

"What??" everyone shouted. I wondered the same question...

"Sorting Hat, please repeat your decision!" I pleaded in my head.

"HUFFLETHERINRAVENDOR!!!" The hat screamed. Everyone's murmurs where still filled of confusion. I was wondering myself, why? It was a combination of all four houses. Dumbledore stood. The Hall fell silent.

"Miss Alexandra will be placed..." and at those words, everyone's bodies tensed. "in all four houses. She will have a bed in all girl dormitories, know all the Common Room passwords, and go to all of her classes whenever she would like, as long as sticks to a certain order and schedule. If the Sorting Hat says she will be in all four houses, shall she be so."

The Hall remained silent, until Harry stood. All eyes turned to him. His face was blank, until he smiled brightly and started clapping loudly. The hall then gave a standing ovation and clapped loudly. The clapping died down when I stood from the stool and Filch carried it away. "So, where do I sit?" I asked everyone when they were quiet.

Wrong choice.

Everyone started pointing next to them or their table. I decided to switch tables frequently so I could introduce myself to everyone. Why not start with Gryffindor? I waltzed down the center aisle and sat across from Harry and Ron, next to Hermione.

"Welcome to Hogwarts!" greeted Hermione. "I'm Hermione, this is Ron, and--"

'Harry! I know!' I said.

"How?' Rom and Hermione asked.

"We kind of already met..." Harry said sheepishly.

"Yes Harry. We met when you had the tip of your wand at my throat!' I teased, punching him in his arm. Hermione and I chat cheerily, and then I had to switch tables, like I promised myself. I promised that I would sleep in the Gryffindor girls' dormitories tonight, so Hermione and I could hang out more. I went to the Ravenclaw across the way to introduce myself there. I sat next to Luna Lovegood, whom I've adored when I read the books. Luna and I talked fondly of nargles and other mythical things that Xenophilius Lovegood tells her. A lot of the other Ravenclaws came and introduced themselves. I can I'll never be lonely when I'm with Ravenclaws! The Hufflepuffs were very kind and caring, the way they shook my hand when they introduced themselves to me showed that they care about how you feel, and that you're welcomed. Ernie Mcmillan looked a lot cuter than how I imagined him in the books! Might be hanging around him when with Hufflepuffs! I didn't want to go to the Slytherin table, but I want to be on everyone's side and friend. So I walked up hesitantly to Pansy Parkinson. To be honest, when she wasn't being evil, I don't mind her company. She and I have a lot in common, and I can tell I'll always be a friend in her books. Pansy introduced me to Zabini, Theodore Nott, Crabbe, Goyle and Malfoy. I didn't want to admit that I already know Draco, because she would probably assume that him and I did something. I could see the look in her eyes when I was on the stool that she was jealous of me. Draco's voice appeared in my head when I was walking away..

"Meet me after dinner." his voice said, He said soon after, "Please.' Still demanding, but at least polite.

"Fine." I thought back. I strutted back over to the Gryffindor table, but explored the other end. I met Neville, Fred and George, Ginny, and others. They all seemed very nice. After dinner, the Hall emptied, table by table. I stayed in the shadows of the room. I didn't even think of stepping out of them until Draco waltzed right into the center. He stood in the center aisle circling in one place.

"I'm right here." I said. I stepped out of the shadows, and Draco turned to face me. Instead of his mischievous smirk, he wore a scowl on his face. His eyebrows furrowed, which made him some what attractive. "I'll make you a deal." He said, cutting straight to the point. "Stay away from those lame excuses of heros and come to the Slytherin side, and you can go out with me. Deal?" His smirk still didn't show, and the scowl remained strong. I smirked. I was bored, and wanted to have some fun. I waltzed Draco's way, and got closer to him. Our bodies were almost touching, but I could still feel heat radiating off of his body.

"Draco, I'm not on anyone's side! Did you not notice me switching tables during dinner?" I asked him. "And what's in it for me? You're nothing special."

"And the Gryffindors are?" he asked. "Every year, when we get new first years, they always hope to be in Gryffindor. They are scared of Slytherin, unless they were raised to see bad in everyone and think highly of themselves. Why can't Slytherin people be nice for once, like you?" He asked me all these questions, but I didn't know the answer. He turned on his heels and raced out of the room.

"What's up with him?" I asked aloud. Damn, teenage boys are so weird! I tried to exit the hall, but I ran into a solid figure. It stumbled backward, but easily caught themselves. When the person stepped into the light, I realized it was Snape.

"Miss Nelson, the Head Master would like to speak with you in his office." His voice droned, with no emotion. I nodded and turned in the opposite direction to head to Dumbledore's office.

"Coffee cake." I spoke quickly when I reached the gargoyles. They hesitantly jumped aside, and growled when I entered. "Yes, headmaster?" I asked as I launched open his office door.

"Just a quick reminder, Miss Alexandra." I nodded, to prove that I was listening. "Lurk in the shadows. Don't talk to anyone much, and go in any house you want except Gryffindor. The plot is now changing even more. The Golden Trio now formally knows you! And that's not good. Why not settle on the Slytherin Common Room tonight?" I nodded and turned on my heels, bidding a barely audible 'good night'.

"House elves." I whispered to the portrait. It swung open to reveal a vast room, decorated with green and silver hangings, black leather couches, and mahogany wood tables and desks. I wanted to sleep on one of the couches, not wanting to run into any girls that I dorm want to talk to *cough Pansy cough* To my dismay, Malfoy already passed out on the couch, so I took comfort in a black leather recliner. It was comfortable enough, but anything could've been better. The thoughts of Draco's offer and Dumbledore's warning swirled in my mind as my eyes fluttered closed and I fell asleep in the warm embrace of my robes
