STUPID, STUPID AND STUPID. THAT'S
all Harriet had to say about this whole situation. She was starting to strongly believe that her brother needed to find some smarter friends, but, then again— Pope was the smartest guy she knew, he even helped her with homework sometimes. In her opinion, they should listen to Pope a whole lot more. It would help avoid tricky stuff like whatever just happened.

"Well, that was fun. Could've warned us sooner." JJ laughed, half joking as he leaned back against the boat.

Harriet was too preoccupied with trailing her finger along the murky water in patterns and watching the ripples float to pay any mind to the dumb conversations.

"Well, we would've, except Pope was on the math team." Kiara shrugged, shooting a teasing look at Pope.

"You were on the math team?" JJ asked, surprised.

"Harriet was the one to actually hit the window." Kiara added, and JJ, who was next to the child leaning over the edge gave her a nudge.

"Good work, Hattie." He grinned, "Beat by the child, Pope, how does that feel?"

"It feels rather great, awesome." Pope rolled his eyes.

"I don't like maths." Harriet simply shrugged, there was nothing much more to it. She did some baseball, before everything happened, and she had a pretty good arm. Maybe one day she'd do it again, but probably not.

"Guys, the cops took everything like it was a crime scene." John B directed their focus back to the main topic.

"Did you guys find anything?" Pope asked.

"Did we find anything? No, I don't think so. Ob, yeah, we did." JJ smiled proudly as he pulled a gun and stack of money from his pockets— holding them up like a prize he had won.

"Wow!" Harriet gasped, she had never been so close to a gun before.

She seemed to be the only one amused by it though, the gun at least. "What the hell?" Pope exclaimed, his tone laced with panic and shock.

"Dude, what?!" Kiara looked at him like he was an idiot.

"Dude, chill. Come on." JJ shrugged like he had only stolen candy or something.

"Why would you take that from a crime scene?" Pope threw his hands up, adjusting his cap again. Harriet noticed he does it when he's nervous or scared. "I'm gonna lose my merit scholarship." Very smart, annoyingly. I can't even remember my times tables.

"Better than cops having it." JJ shrugged, shushing down Pope's panic. "Hey, hey, sh, sh, sh, sh. At least you have us right?"

"I'm living the nightmare." Pope sat back down, pulling away from JJ, looking like his life was over before it even started.

"Can I hold it?" Harriet asked with an eager smile, leaning closer to try and get a look at the weapon which JJ was holding comfortably.

"No." Kiara and John B said at the same time, JJ rolling his eyes. She knew if the others weren't there he would definitely let her hold it. That was why she liked JJ, he didn't treat her like a kid all the time. She was sick of being treated like a kid.
