The room was filled with the soft chatter and excited squeals of children as they found their seats and eyed the bright posters on the walls. Taylor, a little girl with pigtails tied in pink ribbons, clutched her mother's hand as she took in the colorful classroom. She felt her heart beat faster, half nervous and half curious, as she scanned the room full of new faces.
"Go on, Taylor," her mother encouraged with a gentle smile, nudging her forward. "You'll make friends, I promise."
Just then, a boy with a big grin and a slightly crooked haircut spotted her. He seemed just as new as she was, but he walked right up to her with a sense of confidence, holding out a hand.
"Hi! I'm Travis," he said, his eyes bright and friendly. "Wanna be friends?"
Taylor looked at his outstretched hand, then back up to his face. She smiled, her nerves melting away just a bit as she reached out and shook his hand with a giggle.
"I'm Taylor," she replied. "And yeah, I wanna be friends."
