First period: Chemistry
As I pen down notes from the whiteboard, I hear a soft, drawn-out yawn right beside me. I tilt my head to see Rohi looking utterly exhausted, struggling to keep her eyes open.
"Why are you spreading laziness so early in the morning, huh?" I tease her.
"I didn’t sleep well last night, and I'm so wiped from all the functions and events yesterday," she replies, pouting like a child denied their favorite candy.
Suddenly, Ruhi leans forward, a mischievous glint in her eyes, eyebrows wiggling in full tease mode.
"Ohhh, what were you really doing last night if not sleeping, hmm?" she says, voice dripping with mock suspicion.
"Reading," Rohi answers, eyes half-closed and lips curving into a dreamy smile.
"Reading what?" Ruhi and I blurt out in unison.
"Twisted Games by Ana Huang," Rohi murmurs, blushing so hard that if the teacher paid even an ounce of attention, she'd be up on her feet explaining herself in front of the whole class.
"Ughhhh, not again! You and your fictional world!" Ruhi groans, throwing her hands up in exaggerated exasperation, rolling her eyes so hard I wonder if they'll get stuck.
"Heyyy! Rhys Larsen is not fictional. He's my real man!" Rohi declares, at first with a look of utter defiance, then melting into a dreamy, dazed look by the end.
Ruhi snorts, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow. "Yes, yes, the man I can’t even see is real. He's about as real as... as unicorns."
"Well, the men you see are a joke in themselves, so let’s not talk about my man. He has no interest in seeing anyone but me, thank you very much!" Rohi fires back, holding her chin high.
Ruhi clutches her heart in fake offense, gasping, "Oh! How dare you insult real-life men, Madam Fiction Queen?"
Rohi leans in, dead serious, and whispers, "Well, at least my man doesn’t have wandering eyes."
Their bickering is reaching a new level of drama when suddenly the teacher’s stern voice cuts through the noise.
"Class, quiet!"
They immediately sit back, though their narrowed eyes and silent mocking gestures speak volumes.
The teacher clears his throat. "As you all know, the mid-terms are just around the corner. I want each of you to get serious with your studies and pay close attention from now on."
He begins writing the syllabus on the board, droning on about important topics.
Suddenly, he calls my name, and I snap to attention.
"Yes, sir?" I stand up as he gestures me forward.
He hands me a pile of answer sheets and a list. "Take these to class 12th science. Distribute the answer sheets first, then make sure to record the marks from both this test and the last one on this list," he instructs, voice serious.
